"I had Russell Installations install a metal roof and I was very happy I hired them. I would hire them again. They did the job in the amount of time they told me it would take. Pete is truthful and easy to get in touch with. Not like so many other contractors. Great job. thanks."

"They started when Matt said they were and Matt also help me with the energy program with PSNH  so that I can get everything done all at once. There was a problem with the windows when the came in and Matt took care it right way and the had most of the windows installed three business day latter and was good. I have neighbors come up to me and my uncle who was watching the house while the men were in the house and said the house looks nice and is a completely turn around and help the neighborhood since the house was in bad shape. Matt also helped seal the deal on the house before the project by doing a couple of small jobs to make the sale happen due to some issues with the bank and the condition of the house.

Energy Efficiency Auditing questions, answered by experts

Electric bills tend to be lower in spring and fall because people use less electricity during these seasons. Milder temperatures allow for less use of heating and cooling, unlike during winter and summer, which usually bring more extreme temperatures.

Window AC units use a fair amount of electricity, but significantly less than central AC systems. Because they are more energy-efficient for cooling individual rooms or small spaces, their usage is comparatively low. On average, a window AC unit consumes between 500 and 1,400 watts, while a central AC system uses over 3,500 watts—meaning a window unit uses about one-third of the energy. This typically translates to a monthly running cost of $15 to $40, although this can vary depending on external factors.

Leaving vents open but closing doors in unused rooms will probably not save money on your energy bill. Closed doors prevent the natural flow of air throughout the home, which could reduce the efficiency of the overall HVAC system. They could also restrict airflow into and through the return vents, making the HVAC system less efficient.

ENERGY STAR®-certified windows are the most energy-efficient windows on the market. This certification means that the window meets strict efficiency guidelines set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency. While they might cost more upfront, they can save you money on your energy bills in the long run. ENERGY STAR®-certified windows lower household energy bills by an average of 12% annually.

While many states require all new construction to undergo blower door tests, it’s not a requirement for existing homes. But in both cases, a blower test helps confirm that the contractor has sealed the exterior, that the type of ductwork installed is functioning properly, and that your home is as efficient as possible.
