In most cases, you’ll need two coats of paint to ensure proper coverage. If you put down a coat of primer first, you could get away with a single coat of paint, but you’ll likely still need two coats. You may also choose to charge extra for intricate work (such as baseboards or crown molding) or painting jobs done in complex locations. Then, you’ll need to charge for the materials used, including primer and paint, and tools like brushes, drop cloths, and ladders.  

While painting your stair's railing is a job for a small collection of various brush sizes, painting the stairs portion of a stairwell with a roller is a matter of personal preference. You can find two-, four-, and six-inch rollers at home centers and hardware stores, which can be excellent for painting treads and risers. However, you'll still need at least one brush to cut in the details and edges. 

It takes three to four days on average for a team of two to three painters to paint an average-sized (three-to-four-bedroom) house. Larger homes, such as three-story homes and five-bedroom homes, can take two to three painters around five to six days to paint. Your contractor can provide the most accurate estimated timeline for the project.

Primer is always recommended for every exterior paint job because it ensures even coverage and long-lasting color. That said, there are high-end brands of paint that market themselves to be easily used without the need for a coat of primer beforehand. It’s up to you which one you choose (and have the budget for), just as long as you read the paint manufacturer’s specific instructions on the product before getting started.
