"It went very smoothly from first contact through job execution. Some neighbors had recommended them as a previous contractor never did the fencing job he had promised. In the end, they were less costly and did a fantastic job."

Customers say: Quick response

"When gathering quotes for a fencing project Riel Fencing was one of the most reasonable we received. The piece that made us decide to go with them, was that Kevin arrived 15 min early to assess the project. That was the start of a great working relationship. VERY happy with the end results! Would hire again if we ever have another fence project ."

"It is hard to find good, honest and affordable handyman who is willing to take up small projects. Junior was hired to fix a broken fence panel. No other person would take up the work because it was too small a job. Junior came in, offered to do the work and finished very timely. He even picked up material for Home Depot and gave me the receipts. I ended up getting landscaping and bedroom painted with him as well. Would definitely hire him again."

Small jobs welcome

"Great guys. I enjoyed watching them work. They were here on time and wasted no time by staying busy every moment. They did exactly what I would have done should I have been a little younger. I was very happy with Quade and Gary's work. They cleaned up afterward so you wouldn't know they had even been here. I highly recommend them and will certainly consider them for future work that needs to be done. Jack"

"Great communication, completed the job as we discussed, very considerate of where my car was so it wouldn't get damaged. Cleared all the debris, deadfall, pine cones , pine needles and trimmed off the low branches. Would hire again, great man to work with and I'm very happy with the results."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

The ideal distance between fence posts depends on several factors, including the terrain, the purpose of the fence, and the material used. For different types of fences, here are some general guidelines:

  • Wood and Metal Fences: Posts should be spaced between 5 and 8 feet apart.

  • Vinyl Fences: Spacing can be between 6 and 8 feet.

  • Chain-Link, Mesh, or Lattice Fences: Posts can be set anywhere from 4 to 25 feet apart, with 4-10 feet being common for chain-link.

  • Wire Fences: Spacing can be up to 12 feet apart.

For a chain link fence, the ideal distance between fence posts is 6 to 10 feet apart. Measure carefully to ensure even spacing, and resist the temptation to extend the distance more than 10 feet. Doing so could impact the stability of your fence.

In terms of materials, chicken wire mesh will be the most inexpensive option to use when building your fence. The downside is that it’s not the most attractive garden fence option. In a similar vein, you could choose a DIY fence made out of repurposed items, like car tires, or wooden pallets, either of which would be free to collect.

Glass fences are extremely strong. You can drop 10mm thick tempered glass on concrete and it wouldn't break. Considering that certain types of glass are bulletproof, glass has the capacity to be exceptionally durable and resistant to breaking. Certain types of glass, like laminated glass, are designed to not shatter at all, but rather break into giant pieces.

The lifespan of a fence can range from 5 to 50 years, depending heavily on the material, local climate, and how well it is maintained. For example, a wooden fence might last 7 to 15 years, while a vinyl fence typically lasts 20 to 30 years. Metal, composite, and glass fences have some of the longest lifespans. Proper maintenance, such as regular cleaning, inspections, and staining or sealing for wood, is key to extending the life of any fence material. Vinyl and composite are durable options that don't require sealing.
