"The experience was great. Zak Hooper called me within an hour of my contacting the HomeAdvisor site. We set a time for him to visit and when he came he walked through the yard writing notes of what we needed and handed us the quote when he left. it was perfect for what we needed to be done. When he did the job he worked efficiently and completed everything to our complete satisfaction. Zak is not just an ordinary tree cutter, he is also an arborist so he can cut trees down, but also knows how they should be trimmed to keep them healthy and growing properly. A good company to have to do your tree work."

"I had a dead 70 foot Ash tree that threatened a new garage. From Angi’s list I interviewed four Arborists. Leafy (leaf) was the least expensive, had the smallest footprint on my property and was in and out in a day. He did everything I asked and cleaned the area when complete. I highly recommend him."

"This is an outstanding tree service. We hired them to take down 1 over 100ft pine tree and one maple about 55 ft. The employees of this company were so conscientious about their work and some of the hardest working men we have ever seen. The men who climbed to the top of the 100 ft tree were amazing. The work was done with safety the top priority and quality following. The owner Mario, was here the entire job and ensured the clean up was done as before they arrived. Not only do we rate there work as outstanding, out of the three estimates we received, their price was the best. We highly recommend this service."

Customers say: True professional

"Everything was great from start to finish. Very reasonably priced. The huge pine we had removed was over 100 feet tall. They had all the necessary equipment to skillfully cut down the tree. It was amazing to watch. We highly recommend Hooper's Tree Service. George E."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

For Bradford pears, damage from storms is common, and if the trunk splits, it can pose a danger to people and surrounding structures. The best thing to do in that instance is to have the tree removed. If there’s only minor damage to the branches, pruning away the damaged parts is the first order of business. You may also want to consult a professional arborist to make sure the tree is healthy.

A standard tree removal doesn’t include stump grinding. If you want your contractor to remove your tree and grind the stump, you must pay an extra charge. That said, you’ll likely save on the cost of stand-alone service—especially if it’s a small tree and they can finish both jobs in a single trip.

Any tree that needs to be pruned should be pruned to remove dead branches at least once a year. You may need to prune far more often if you’re trying to maintain a certain shape or to save a tree that suddenly becomes infected.

Make sure the tree roots soak around a day before you dig the tree up for the transplant. Keep the roots wet while the tree is above ground. After the transplant is finished, provide consistent water every day for the first month or so. You don’t want to overwater the tree, but you do want to keep the roots wet so they can thrive in their new environment.

You need to remove all branches affected by Dutch elm disease. If your tree has several affected branches, you will probably need to remove the entire tree. First, consult a pro to be sure that you’ve correctly identified it as an elm tree. Make sure the tree is properly disposed of with a plastic covering or through debarking, chipping, or burning.
