"They replaced 3 ceiling fans. The new fans work great. There was some clean up after but the hardware from the old fans was mostly contained. There was some confusion in the communication as I was getting emails and texts from different people, but our handyman showed up and did the work as expected."

Doors questions, answered by experts

Pocket doors fell out of popularity due to previous functionality issues and the raised tracks. But design and function have improved significantly in recent years, giving pocket doors a resurgence. They can be the perfect choice for a small space or to close off an adjoining room, such as a home office or dining room.

You should generally cut between 1/8-inch and 1 inch when planing a door. If you cut off more than that, you risk damaging the door. Planing too much from the bottom of your door can cause noticeable gaps, so it’s always better to start with as thin of a section as possible and work in thin layers until your door no longer sticks.

Your front door should only need replacing every 20 to 40 years, depending on the material and level of wear and tear. Sometimes a door will need replacing sooner due to extreme weather conditions, like a hurricane or storm. In other cases, you may want to upgrade your door to add some upgraded curb appeal—especially when prepping your home for sale.

New door knobs likely won’t have much of an effect on property value, but they can improve your home’s curb appeal and interior decor, which might lead some buyers to offer more for your home. However, in terms of personal value, adding new door knobs can be a game changer. New door knobs not only function better than older ones in most cases, but they make your home secure, and there’s a lot to be said about the peace of mind a new exterior door knob can provide.

Doors are made from a variety of materials, including fiberglass, wood, and steel. Fiberglass is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a durable, long-lasting, and energy-efficient option that comes in various colors, although it’s not eco-friendly. Steel provides durability and maximum security but is not eco-friendly or energy-efficient. Wood is an energy-efficient, eco-friendly door solution, but you’ll spend more.
