With more than two decades of experience in residential and commercial exterior work, we have established a reputation for doing honest, quality work at a great price.\nWe know it's pretty easy to find crews to work on the exterior of your home or business, but you must be careful who you trust. Smaller crews are not always licensed and insured, so hiring them is risky. "My computer (Windows XP) was running very slow and had become almost inoperable. It was taking a very long time to process anything, especially anything to do with the internet. IE was taking 100% of the cpu most of the time. Jim worked on my computer remotely for several days defragging, cleaning, anti-virus, malware, etc., but could not get it to perform anywhere near where it should. We decided that I needed a new computer. Jim built me a new computer (Windows 7 with racing stripes). The new system works very well and I am pleased with it. When Jim switched my files over from old to new, the Kodak Easy-Share program with my pictures did not get transferred. He has promised to make that transfer when he installs a new door covering the DVD reader which was broken upon setup. I will update this review when this occurs. I am very pleased with the new system and would do it all over again if a similar situation were present.

"Sales process was good, courteous and helpful. Installation instructions were easy to follow. Did have a small issue with one sensor which was easily solved with a call. Control panel is easy to use and well constructed. Phone app is the best part. Not a big fan of a 2 year contract and the monthly rate feels a little high, but definitely a decent system. I had emailed them a question pertaining installing on double hung windows and never received a reply, but other than that their phone support prior to that was good."

"I ordered 7 windows and 2 basement small windows in Sept 2023. They told me they would be in around Christmas or before. I called and they said they would contact me once in. I never received a call but had to call them and did 3 or so times asking about them. End of April they finally scheduled me and they were put in. Overall satisfied. The installers they hired did a fairly good job and were very nice. Quality of windows above average and the installation about average to above average. The company completed the agreement accordingly, did not follow through very well to keep me informed on the status, but I would recommend them."

"Stan Espinosa, of D & S, arrived within that window and replaced the igniter and was out the door within an hour. A few days later we turned on the oven and smelled the unmistakable odor of natural gas. We called Mr. Espinosa and reported odor and he told us that he would try to come by the following day. As promised he did show up the following day and discovered that the igniter was not close enough to the gas line allowing some gas to escape before the igniter heater up enough to light the line. We do not believe the igniter was installed incorrectly by the technician, we believe it is a design flaw by the manufacturer. Mr. Espinosa is a man of his word and backs up his work. We would hire him again."

Windows questions, answered by experts

Sometimes, you can buy windows directly from the manufacturer, and it may be cheaper than buying through a third party or wholesaler. Manufacturers may also offer more options, including custom shapes and features, or better warranties if you purchase through them directly.

However, some companies limit the ability to buy from them, especially if you need standard pre-fabricated sizes, so don’t expect this service from every manufacturer.

Hopper windows aren’t flawless when it comes to keeping rain and debris out of your house because if there’s wind pushing the precipitation, it could easily get in through the open space. On top of that, hopper windows aren’t potential escape routes the way regular windows are in case of a fire or emergency. If that’s a priority or need, it’s something to consider when choosing a window type.

Because egress windows are meant for emergency exiting and entering, they need to be an accessible size. The smallest an egress window is allowed to be is 15 inches in width and height, with an opening of around 4 square feet.

Egress windows are typically required for basements with habitable space or living quarters. Not all basements or lower levels require egress windows. However, egress windows are required in homes with living spaces such as bedrooms and living rooms in a basement. The International Residential Code and International Building Code require sleeping rooms to have a specific size egress window. Check your local building codes to confirm the requirements in your area.

If you don't have hurricane shutters or impact-resistant windows, boarding up windows before a hurricane is worth it. According to the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes, protection is essential for all your home's entry points, including windows, doors, skylights, and garage doors.

When windows break, wind enters your home, creating enough pressure that could cause the weakest part of your to rupture. Often, the weakest part is the roof, which can "pop" off of a home in a hurricane. The simple act of boarding up your windows can protect the structural integrity of your house.
