"The biggest con is that they blew out vents but just left all the dust from the registers around the house so there was dust, bugs, and dirt on our beds, furniture, and living spaces. Paid more than I expected as well for how small my HVAC was too."

"Jim was absolutely fantastic! He was able to come out and assess the problem the same day as my request. He found the problem and made the repair in about 30mins. He also offered a maintenance plan that will prevent the issue from happening again. He was very helpful and had excellent communication. I will definitely be using him in the future."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

The size window AC you need depends on the BTU and the size of the room you’re cooling. For a room with 8-foot ceilings, look for about 20 BTU per square foot of the room. For example, a 12-by-12-foot room should have an air conditioner with 2,880 BTU. You can buy something slightly more powerful, but don’t overshoot the BTU for a small room, or you’ll waste energy and have higher bills.

When deciding whether to repair or replace your air conditioner, several factors should be considered. It is generally worth repairing the unit if it's less than 10 years old, the warranty is still active, and you're dealing with a one-off issue. Most central AC units last about 15 years, while window units last 8 to 10 years. If your unit is approaching or has surpassed the 10-year mark and requires frequent or costly repairs (e.g., over $5,000), replacement is often the more sensible long-term investment. For older, inefficient, or out-of-warranty units experiencing multiple problems, replacing it is typically the better choice.

Winterizing can still help you save money on energy costs and help prepare your AC for its work next year when you turn it back on. We suggest planning for at least some maintenance, even if winters are mild in your area.

An AC inspection costs anywhere from $75 to $200, while a full HVAC system inspection that includes your furnace ranges from $200 to $450. While there's a cost to a home AC inspection, it can save you hundreds or thousands in the long run by catching problems, avoiding breaks, and saving you money on your utility bills.

It all depends on the unit’s SEER (seasonal energy efficiency ratio). A higher SEER rating means better efficiency and lower costs for your energy bills.

Take a look at the product you’re considering purchasing and compare it to other models to decide which one is affordable upfront but will keep your energy costs low over time.
