"We moved into our house a few years ago and were considered with the condition of our HVAC. Two local HVAC companies tried to sell us on replacing all of our duct work. Not only did Blake and Brad save us from a needless, expensive replacement but they cleaned our ducts and return so thoroughly it was hard to even recognize it. The amount of debris they pulled out was astonishing. It legitimately looked like they had put in new ducts. They were so thorough, friendly and trustworthy and the services they provided were a very fair price, especially when you compare it to the cost of replacement. I canâ t recommend these guys enough! Iâ d give them 10 out of 5 stars if I could!"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

There are two main reasons your furnace and AC are turning on at the same time. The first could be that you’re confusing the furnace with the blower. The blower is located in the furnace and will turn on to distribute cool air from the air conditioner through the ductwork in the home. This is normal. If the actual furnace is turning on at the same time as the AC and hot and cool air are coming into the home, it could be a result of incorrect writing to a new thermostat or new systems.

While it's generally safe to stay in a home with a coolant leak if your home is properly ventilated, it's important to have a professional come out to assess the situation right away. You should evacuate your home if you notice any powerful fumes. Additionally, you should leave your home if you are experiencing headaches or dizziness.

Look up your model number online to find additional information. Usually, you can just take a look at the old filter and find the brand name and dimensions to order a new one. When replacing the filter, always check that it’s pointed the right way to match the direction of your airflow. Many filters have arrows on them to help with this step.

If you know how to identify supply and return ducts, you’ll find that only the supply ducts will have dampers. Although your return ducts can have dampers, it’s not common. If you have one return duct that is pulling in too much air, adding a damper to it can help with overall system performance. However, dampers on return ducts are not a necessary addition for most homes.

A blockage in the ductwork may prevent air from flowing through the vent. If some rooms in your home are very hot or cold and another isn't, that can be a sign that a vent is blocked. Another sign of a blockage is a buildup of dirt or dust around the vent. In either case, a duct installer or cleaning service can investigate the issue for you and recommend a course of action.
