"We were concerned about replacing the curb along the driveway side away from the garage and brick work that bordered the driveway outside the garage. Johnathon recommended using a swale instead of the curb and installed new bricks on the border. His professionalism was outstanding. Overall, an excellent job by MadeWell Concrete. Our driveway is the envy of the neighborhood. Highly recommended."

Most of what we do is full tear-out and replacement. We remove the old cracked, settling, or spalling concrete, rebuild the base the right way, and pour new. We also handle driveway extensions and widening, aprons and curb cuts, stamped and decorative concrete, and concrete repair.\n\nOur crews have poured more than 38,000 residential concrete projects. Every job gets a dedicated project coordinator, up-front pricing with no surprise change orders, and a final walkthrough before we call it finished. Licensed and insured.\n\nNeed a new driveway? "David was quick to respond to my initial request for a quote and explained in detail how the job would go. He provided references in our neighborhood who we talked to and they also were pleased with his work several years later and used a higher PSI concrete than some of the competing quotes. We had drainage issues with one section of our existing driveway which David was able to address as well as providing additional options for future drainage to add to our surrounding landscape. David was great at communicating throughout the project, explaining each step of the way and giving updates on the timeline. He showed up on time every day, worked hard, and cleaned up well at end of day. I was a bit nervous about it being only a 2 man crew given the size of our driveway but they worked efficiently and delivered a high quality product."

"Our Hardscapes project consisted of construction of a concrete curb and paver strip along the front street side portion of our lawn followed by fescue sod in the front. Also installed were a large decorative stone wall and smaller stone wall in the front garden. Additionally, a short stone wall was constructed in the back garden. Entire project moved along smoothly & in impressive condensed time frame. We are thrilled with the aesthetics of the completed project, the fact that the labor crews have been with Hardscapes for a significant time and are treated like family, and also something that is increasingly rare in today’s hurried environment-good communication regarding weather delays, anticipated start dates, prompt response to questions & project design tweaks. It has been a pleasure working with Adam Simpson & the Hardscapes group."

"Jose did an excellent job with planting over 20 bushes and shrubs and he leveled the top soil and spread and compacted mulch in my front yard. His prices were very reasonable and I would recommend him again. In fact I have contracted him to build a retainer wall in my back yard."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Many asphalt companies have experience with tar and chip paving, but not all. The process is unique enough—and not incredibly common enough—that you may have to look around for a tar and chip specialist. However, speaking with a driveway company is a great place to start, especially if they have experience with multiple materials.

Asphalt, which is stone mixed with tar, is the most common material for outdoor basketball courts because it’s so sturdy and versatile. However, you don't have to use it: another option is polymeric rubber, which has shock pads that can prevent injury. This option is a little more expensive, ranging between $16 and $25 per square foot.

Materials used for indoor basketball courts, such as hardwoods, aren’t really an option outdoors.

Professionals restore the surface to a fresh, attractive finish by applying a new, even sealant layer.

The three most common types of asphalt are hot asphalt, MC cold mix, and UPM asphalt. Hot asphalt is used most often for paving and patching roadways while it’s hot and workable. MC cold mix asphalt cures more slowly than hot asphalt, but it can be used for temporary patches and repairs in low-traffic areas. UPM is also used cold, but it can be used as a longer-term fix, usable in almost any conditions at almost any temperature.

Asphalt dries and cures best between 50 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. This range allows moisture to evaporate quickly without causing the asphalt to cool too fast, which can negatively affect the drying process. However, keep in mind that other weather conditions can also affect curing and drying times, such as precipitation and humidity.
