Everyone wants to install but not do repairs when a valve breaks or head needs replaced or there is a leak - seems to be a real shortage in the Hickory region of people who will do irrigation repairs. They are very friendly, courteous and professional and they worked very hard to complete the task promptly, despite some poor weather days. They were careful to cleanup afterwards and left our yard looking better than when they arrived. The cost was in line with their estimate and we would highly recommend them to anyone needing stone-scape or landscape work."

You should place a layer of thick landscaping fabric directly over the concrete slab and then a thin layer of leveling sand over that to protect the pavers from moisture. For border pavers, you should plan on locking them in place with polyurethane adhesive. This will prevent them from shifting under foot traffic.

Professional installers often include a deep layer of crushed gravel under permeable pavers to allow more runoff to soak through into the soil below. Many installations will include multiple layers of gravel, with coarser aggregate at the base and finer aggregate that sits on top of that bottom layer. Above the gravel, you’ll often find coarse sand that helps reduce paver shifting over time. Some permeable paver designs include a water collection system set into the gravel layer to route runoff to a safe area for disposal.

Asphalt, which is stone mixed with tar, is the most common material for outdoor basketball courts because it’s so sturdy and versatile. However, you don't have to use it: another option is polymeric rubber, which has shock pads that can prevent injury. This option is a little more expensive, ranging between $16 and $25 per square foot.

Materials used for indoor basketball courts, such as hardwoods, aren’t really an option outdoors.

The layer of polymeric sand under the pavers plus the polymeric sand that gets swept into the joints between your pavers holds them in place in a few ways. For one, the gritty texture of the sand helps lock the pavers together. Polymeric sand also contains bonding agents that get activated by water. Polymeric sand will take between 24 and 48 hours to fully cure, so do not walk on your paver walkway before this time.

Permeable pavers typically last between 20 and 40 years, depending on the material, installation quality, and how well they’re maintained. Interlocking concrete pavers and stone systems tend to last the longest, especially when built on a properly compacted base. Regular cleaning to prevent joint clogging can significantly extend their lifespan.
