"I purchased a 1920's Bungalow and discovered after a very heavy rainfall the crawl space flooded, which led to a very musty smell in my house. I hired a different company who tested and said there was various mold including black mold, but could not find it. I then contacted EnviroFry. Deven and William tested and found it in my attic and crawl space. They removed the mold in the attic and in the crawl space, installed a French drainage system inside the crawl space and encapsulated it with vapor barrier. They cleaned my ducts and fogged my HVAC and house. They were very professional and are wonderful people! I have already recommended them to people I know. I highly recommend them!"

"The technician emptied the freezer, which was in the basement, to work on the part that needed repair. Then he neglected to put anything back into the freezer, including a turkey I had bought for Christmas and a rack of ribs. Two days after he left, I went out of town for two weeks. The turkey actually exploded and spewed its liquid all over everything, which had to be discarded. I let AHS know and they couldn't even bother to call me or follow up on this. I'm considering not renewing my contract with them because of the quality (or lack thereof) of many of the providers they send."

Mold Testing and Remediation questions, answered by experts

It is common for mold to grow around air vents, especially in areas with high humidity or moisture problems. These vents provide a perfect environment for mold to thrive due to the condensation caused by the meeting of warm and cool air. Mold growth can be accelerated by the presence of dust and debris around the vents. Regular maintenance, proper ventilation, and addressing any water leaks or excess humidity can prevent the growth of mold around air vents.

Poor maintenance can cause some health concerns, although these are more common in commercial misters than residential versions. For example, stagnant water can become a breeding ground for bacteria, some of which can be dangerous to human health, especially when inhaled. Regular flushing of the system before seasonal use should prevent issues like these.

Otherwise, avoid using mosquito misters with pesticides or plant misters with fertilizers near humans. These misters are not designed for cooling sprays around decks or patios, but for more utilitarian purposes.

Nearly all homes have at least some airborne mold spores. If you want to determine the concentration of spores in the air, you have a few options. The most effective option is to hire a professional tester who can take air samples of the home. The tester would send the samples to a laboratory to determine the concentration of mold spores.

It’s possible that installing solar panels can lead to mold on the roof. The panels themselves are not the issue. Problems caused by improper installation—such as roof leaks and mounts that aren’t sealed properly—can cause mold. Another potential cause of mold is debris accumulation under panels, which can trap moisture. If you live somewhere with extreme snow, rain, or hail, your home could be more prone to mold.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), hazardous waste is generally classified into four main categories:

1. Characteristic Wastes: These exhibit at least one of four hazardous traits: ignitability (flammable, like gasoline), corrosivity (can rust or decompose materials, like car batteries), reactivity (unstable and can explode, like aerosol cans), or toxicity (harmful when ingested, like lead-based paint).

2. Listed Wastes: These are specific wastes from manufacturing and industrial processes that the EPA has officially designated as hazardous. They include byproducts from processes that use solvents, pesticides, and other chemicals.

3. Universal Wastes: These are commonly generated hazardous items that are subject to streamlined regulations. Examples include batteries, pesticides, mercury-containing equipment (e.g., bulbs), and some lamps.

4. Mixed Wastes: This category includes waste that contains both hazardous and radioactive components, making it subject to regulation by both the EPA and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
