"I purchased a 1920's Bungalow and discovered after a very heavy rainfall the crawl space flooded, which led to a very musty smell in my house. I hired a different company who tested and said there was various mold including black mold, but could not find it. I then contacted EnviroFry. Deven and William tested and found it in my attic and crawl space. They removed the mold in the attic and in the crawl space, installed a French drainage system inside the crawl space and encapsulated it with vapor barrier. They cleaned my ducts and fogged my HVAC and house. They were very professional and are wonderful people! I have already recommended them to people I know. I highly recommend them!"

"The technician emptied the freezer, which was in the basement, to work on the part that needed repair. Then he neglected to put anything back into the freezer, including a turkey I had bought for Christmas and a rack of ribs. Two days after he left, I went out of town for two weeks. The turkey actually exploded and spewed its liquid all over everything, which had to be discarded. I let AHS know and they couldn't even bother to call me or follow up on this. I'm considering not renewing my contract with them because of the quality (or lack thereof) of many of the providers they send."

Mold Testing and Remediation questions, answered by experts

Mold doesn’t take long to form, especially in dark, isolated areas like under the floorboards, where you’re less likely to know it’s wet in the first place. Mold can take root and proliferate in just 24 to 48 hours, but it can be up to a week before you start to notice funky smells.

Yes. You should use this product in a well-ventilated area because the fumes can be harmful. In addition, the product is poisonous if swallowed, so keep it out of reach of children. Wood finishing products that are oil based can cause irritation to your skin, so you should always wear gloves when handling it.

Many peel-and-stick wallpapers aren’t moisture-resistant, so if you install them in high-humidity rooms, mold can grow behind the wallpaper. It’s best to reserve peel-and-stick wallpaper for bedrooms, living rooms, and other rooms with lower humidity levels. Not only does this minimize the risk of mold growth, but it also keeps the wallpaper from bubbling or peeling.

A mold inspection costs an average of $660, with a typical range between $300 and $1,025. However, costs can be as low as $150 or as high as $2,800 depending on several factors. These include the size of your home, the type of mold, the extent and accessibility of the affected area, your location, and the number and type of samples required. Hard-to-reach areas like air ducts, crawl spaces, and wall cavities can increase the cost. Specific tests have different prices; for example, swab testing typically costs $200 to $300 per area, while more extensive air testing can range from $250 to $700. A thorough inspection is crucial for determining the scope of the problem and identifying the best remediation method.

Black mold and wood rot are both types of fungi that thrive in damp areas, but they are distinct issues with different consequences. Wood rot specifically refers to the decay of wood caused by fungi, which compromises the wood's structural integrity. Black mold, on the other hand, is a fungus that grows on the surface of materials, including both rotting and non-rotting wood. The primary difference is their impact: wood rot affects the wood's structure, while toxic black mold is a health hazard. Inhaling black mold spores can cause severe respiratory issues, whereas wood rot spores are generally not harmful to people. Because mold can grow on rotting wood, the two issues can be interconnected, but they are not the same.
