"I purchased a 1920's Bungalow and discovered after a very heavy rainfall the crawl space flooded, which led to a very musty smell in my house. I hired a different company who tested and said there was various mold including black mold, but could not find it. I then contacted EnviroFry. Deven and William tested and found it in my attic and crawl space. They removed the mold in the attic and in the crawl space, installed a French drainage system inside the crawl space and encapsulated it with vapor barrier. They cleaned my ducts and fogged my HVAC and house. They were very professional and are wonderful people! I have already recommended them to people I know. I highly recommend them!"

Mold Testing and Remediation questions, answered by experts

After you clean mildew or mold that appears in your home, you expect the nasty odor to disappear, too. Sometimes, though, the odor can linger after cleaning. To get rid of a mold smell, you may need to clean the area every few days for a few weeks. Use a dehumidifier or fans to try to remove moisture from the area. If the odor remains after a few weeks, you may still have mold or mildew in the area. Call a mold testing professional for another inspection.

In most cases, cloudy tap water is safe to drink, as the cause is often harmless air bubbles. A simple test is to let a glass of water sit for a few minutes; if the cloudiness dissipates, it was likely just trapped air. However, you cannot be certain of the water's safety without knowing the cause or performing a water test. If the cloudiness is persistent, comes with yellow or brown discoloration, or is accompanied by plumbing issues, it may pose a health risk. In such cases, it is best to call a local plumber to find the cause.

Silverfish aren’t a direct sign of a mold problem. But since they like dark, damp locations, they’re a very strong sign that mold problems could exist. That’s why it’s important to look for signs of mold while you are taking care of a silverfish problem, and fix any causes of long-term moisture in your house.

The CDC does not consider diatomaceous earth toxic to humans or animals, though it can cause skin, eye, and lung irritation when handled without PPE. It's important to note that non-food-grade diatomaceous earth can be toxic when handled or consumed, so homeowners should only purchase the food-grade option.

Musty smells often indicate the presence of mold, which can lead to various health risks. Inhalation of mold spores may trigger allergic reactions, causing sneezing, a runny or stuffy nose, and itchy or watery eyes. People who suffer from mold allergies or asthma may experience more severe respiratory problems. Certain types of mold, like black mold, can lead to mycotoxicosis, a condition associated with serious health effects like respiratory problems, fatigue, headaches, and skin irritation if exposure continues for an extended period. Those with weakened immune systems, respiratory problems, or allergies may be more vulnerable to the health risks that come with musty smells. Therefore, it is crucial to address and eliminate the source of the odor promptly.
