"We had some communication issues. The original bid included a stand of four holly trees which I did not intend to have removed. I made that correction over the phone, but I never received a revised bid. I expected the crew to arrive sometime between 7:30 and 8:00 am, but they actually arrived about 9:30. I never received a call from them, so I called their office and got an update. Once they arrived, they were a pleasure to work with and to watch. Two men felled 18 trees of various sizes and ground them all up. They left after a few hours with a dump truck full of wood chips. One of the men returned later that afternoon and ground up the stumps. When he finished, he pointed out which stumps he could not grind due to proximity to a fence post and to the house. Throughout the project, the operators were both friendly and professional. I recommend their business."

"Submitted a request and had a quote the next day. They had the best competitive price and were able to squeeze us in the following day before a 3-day weekend. Crew was a little late in arriving than expected but it wasn't an issue. Their earlier job had taken a bit longer than expected and we were the afternoon project. We had 3 Bradford Pear trees removed, 1 Leyland Cypress was also taken down with great care not to damage the pool nearby. We also had them chip some branches that were on the ground along with the felled trees. It took them about 90 minutes total, including loading and unloading equipment. I wouldn't hesitate to contact them again. They also executed two copperhead snakes that had made their home in the pile of branches."

"Very pleased with Vik's Services! He contacted me promptly regarding the project, provided a competitive quote, and showed up the next day to do the job. He made sure not to cause any damage to the nearby lines in the yard and did the job quickly. I made sure to save his number in my phone because he will definitely be my go to recommendation for this service moving forward. Five star experience all around!"

Brush Chipping questions, answered by experts

An herbicide with glyphosate, imazapyr, or triclopyr kills ivy the fastest. Herbicides inhibit photosynthesis and cell division. They kill the roots and prevent ivy from regrowing. You should apply herbicide to the cut stems and roots of ivy. You can also spray herbicide on the leaves of ivy, but be sure not to spray nearby trees and plants as it can cause them harm.

While tipping junk haulers is not required or expected, it is a greatly appreciated gesture for a job well done. Many junk removal companies state that tips are welcome but not mandatory. A good rule of thumb is to tip between 10% and 20% of the total bill, or a flat amount of $10 to $20 per worker. For exceptional service, a tip of $20 to $50 for the entire crew is also appropriate. It is often best to give cash directly to each worker at the end of the job.

Consider tipping if the crew:

  • Goes above and beyond your expectations.

  • Handles heavy, bulky items or navigates difficult spaces like tight hallways or stairs.

  • Works in inclement weather or deals with potentially hazardous materials.

  • Takes extra care to protect your home and property.

  • Accommodates a last-minute scheduling change.

Typically, the best type to trim bushes is when they’re dormant. Winter and late fall, potentially even early spring are the best times to trim your bushes. These seasons allow you better access to the branches, as all leaves are gone and the branches are more brittle, making the trimming process easier.

If you are xeriscaping a lawn from scratch, your best bet for preparing the lawn is to work with a xeriscaping specialist in your area. The most common first step to making the transformation, however, will be to remove the turfgrass from your lawn. The subsequent steps will often include amending the soil to support new plants and installing low-drip or drip irrigation systems.

The best way to clean an overgrown yard is to create a multi-stage game plan, from clearing out the debris to cleaning up the edges around hardscaping and landscape curbing. Get rid of yard debris like worn furniture and broken tools first, then start trimming and raking what’s left. Mow the grass, trim the hedges, and rake leaves away. Once that’s complete, move on to more detailed work, like pulling weeds and replanting gardens.
