For floating floors, install the cabinets first and then lay the flooring up to them. Other reasons to consider installing cabinets before the flooring include saving money on materials (since you won't need flooring under the cabinets) and avoiding potential damage to your new floor during cabinet installation. Additionally, installing cabinets directly on the subfloor might prevent voiding your flooring's warranty.

The fastest way to remove carpet is to remove carpet in strips instead of trying to remove it in one large piece. Wear protective equipment such as gloves and goggles, use a utility knife to cut the carpet in long strips, and then pull at the edge of the strip to loosen the staples or glue. Carpet-cutting razor blades are best on your utility knife for the quickest removal.

Ultimately, it’s a matter of personal preference. However, as a rule of thumb, lighter-colored carpets and walls will open up a room and often make it feel larger than it really is. On the other hand, darker shades tend to shrink a space, making it feel cozier. By mixing and matching light and dark colors, you can add dimension to the room.
