"I originally hired Danzy to rebuild brickwork on my front entrance. I ultimately used him for multiple indoor and outdoor projects, INCLUDING overseeing other contractors who just were not as thorough or professional as he was. This guy can do anything!! My house is over 100 yrs old, and he has plenty of experience with older homes. Hire him first as your Project Manager, and he will get the work done!"

"My Blessings, LLC did a fantastic job installing my kitchen countertops and repairing my doorframes. The owner Pedro has excellent knowledge, skill & abilities to do a variety of complex projects. My countertops are professionally installed & I was presented with a variety of attractive design options. My projects were completed on time & their prices are both reasonable & affordable. If you are seeking top-notch quality services, and require attention to details, I would highly recommend My Blessings for your home improvement projects. Zena Galloway"

"Rodney Tree Service's did an excellent job of removing trees the crew arrived on time the day of service, hauled and trees and debris. The crew rated and cleaned up the yard after the tree removal crew was very professional. I would recommend this company to and plan to use again to remove some other trees on my property and my name is Ethel Davis."

"I hired Arcane Grain for some trim work when I was remodeling my home. Richard and his crew got the work done in a fast and timely manner. Everyone was courteous and polite. I could tell they take pride in their work. They cleaned up after themselves. My wife loves the new shelves in our closets. I will definitely be hiring this company again for future projects."

The cost to frame a 2,000-square-foot house can fall anywhere between $14,000 and $32,000. This price can increase or decrease depending on what type of framing you choose, the quality of the materials, the project's complexity, and whether you decide to hire a professional to do the job.

Yes, you can find ceiling joists using simple tools if a stud finder isn't available.

Using a hammer requires patience and a keen ear. Gently tap the ceiling in a grid pattern, listening for sound changes. A hollow sound indicates space between joists, while a solid, dull thud suggests a joist. Mark the location with a pencil and confirm by tapping from different angles.

Alternatively, you can use a nail, but this method will leave small holes. You'll feel increased resistance when the nail hits a joist. Mark the spot and repeat the process every 16 or 24 inches to map the joist locations. This method is considered less reliable than using a stud finder.

Yes, a one-story house can have a load-bearing wall. The load-bearing walls in a single-story home are usually the exterior walls. If the house has a basement with exposed walls, the arrangement of the beams can help indicate what walls are load-bearing.

Bump-out additions can add some space to a closet without requiring any significant structural work. This entails pushing back the existing rear or side of the closet, simply moving the wall into either an adjacent room or unused space. For ground-floor closets, this could even be extended to the exterior of the home, but that has its own complications. Bump-outs are a good discussion to have with your contractor if you’re just looking to increase the space a little—not renovate the entire closet space.

It’s sometimes safe to replace a load-bearing wall with a beam, but you need a structural engineer to sign off on the project. You’ll also likely have to upgrade to a steel I-beam or another material that’s stronger than wood to maintain the level of support you need without the wall underneath.
