It’s no secret that natural gas differs from propane, but you’re in luck—licensed plumbers can also install propane gas lines. When you speak to a gas plumber near you, be sure you specify that your project will be for propane gas, not natural gas. Propane lines are slightly different than natural gas lines, so clear communication is key to ensure that your project is completed without a hitch.

Shut-off valves, like any other piece of metal hardware, can corrode, age, get worn down, and eventually break or rust into place. While some building codes allow galvanized pipe for natural gas, it shouldn’t be used for propane. Propane can cause the pipe to wear down, leading to dangerous leaks. Instead of galvanized piping for propane, you should consider coated copper, black iron, or corrugated stainless steel tubing (CSST). For underground propane line installation, you can use polyethylene (PE).
