"Gutter Dome did a great job for us, both on a standard gutter installation at the roof line of a room addition to our house, but also with a special project of guttering a deck that was about 8 feet from ground level. Last year, we added a deck to our house above our sloping back yard and created a covered porch below it that became a wonderful outdoor room. We constructed the deck to be waterproof so the outdoor room and furniture below wouldn't get rained on. However, we had the an unforeseen problem of rain water sheeting off the edges of the deck and splashing into the outdoor room below.  After multiple inquiries to our local construction professionals, no one was able to come up with a workable way to control the water runoff problem.

Then we found out about Gutter Dome at a local home and garden expo, and we struck gold. They were willing to take on the unusual project of guttering a deck and making it look good, and they did just that.  The deck project was a challenge, but they came up with a workable, aesthetically pleasing way to install their covered gutters to our deck and place the downspouts in inconspicuous spots. Their beautifully designed stainless-steel covered gutter was just what we needed to manage the water run-off as well as keep the huge amount of tree debris (both leaves, pine straw, and small particles) that  falls onto the deck and needs to be regularly blown off to keep it clean.  A "regular" gutter would have clogged continually.
Everyone we dealt with at Gutter Dome was professional, knowledgeable, and pleasant, from the person at the home expo who showed us the superiority of the product, to our salesperson Brandon, to the Robert at the main office, to the installers.  Robert especially impressed us. We came to believe he cared about the project as much as we did. He called the day before the installation to tell us he was sending us his most experienced and knowledgeable installer because it was so important that this deck project be functional and also look good since it was going to be just above eye level instead way up at the roof line.  Robert was also excellent at keeping in touch and letting us know what to expect and when, and everything happened as he said it would.
The installation went without a hitch and we were delighted with the end result.  If one wasn't looking for the gutters on the edge of the deck, one would never even notice them.  Several days after installation, we had a torrential rain, and the gutters performed beautifully.  There was, however, a minor leakage problem between the gutters and the edge of the deck that just needed a little extra caulking to correct.  This correction was made in a timely manner, and now our deck sheds rainwater like a champ, and the outdoor room below remains perfectly dry even in the rainiest conditions.
And finally, a couple of days after the installation, we were pleased and impressed when Brandon, our salesperson, stopped by when he was in the neighborhood to see if we were happy with the job. The quality of their product is unsurpassed (and we were willing to pay extra for it), and their people made the entire process very pleasant.  They went  "above-and-beyond" to make our unusual and challenging project a complete success, and we couldn't be more pleased. We would recommend Gutter Dome without hesitation.

Gutter Cleaning questions, answered by experts

If you want to avoid burying your downspouts, several alternatives can help direct water away from your home's foundation. One option is to connect a rain barrel to your downspout. During a storm, the barrel collects water that you can later use for irrigating your lawn or garden. Another common solution is to install an above-ground downspout extension. This can be done in a couple of ways:

  • Splash Guards: Placing a splash guard, available at most hardware stores, under your downspout can act as a simple funnel to direct water away from the house.

  • Downspout Extensions: You can add an extension to the end of the downspout's elbow to carry water further into your yard. Some extensions are flexible, allowing you to maneuver them around landscaping.

These above-ground solutions are particularly useful if your home has a slab foundation that you cannot dig up. However, they have limitations. An extension may not move water as far from your home as an underground system. More importantly, if your yard slopes back toward your house, these methods will be ineffective, and burying your downspouts remains the best option to prevent potential flooding and water damage.

The best times of year to clean your gutters are typically in the spring and fall. Cleaning in the fall is crucial for removing leaves and debris that have accumulated, which helps prevent clogs. A spring cleaning ensures your gutters are clear and prepared for seasonal rainfall.

As a general guideline, experts recommend cleaning your gutters at least twice a year. However, the optimal frequency depends on several factors, such as local weather patterns, the type of gutters you have, and the number of trees on your property. If your home is surrounded by many large trees or pine trees, you may need to clean your gutters as often as every three to four months. If you have few or no trees nearby, twice a year is likely sufficient. In some cases, you may need to clean them a couple of times during the fall and spring to keep them clear and allow water to flow freely.

If your gutters are out of reach, a leaf blower with a gutter cleaning attachment can help blow out leaves and dirt. You can also consider using a telescoping gutter cleaning tool, which extends your reach while allowing you to clean from the ground. These tools often have adjustable attachments, such as brushes or hoses, to clear debris effectively. If these options aren’t practical, hiring a professional is a safe and efficient way to clean your gutters without risking injury.

Yes, gutters can still get clogged even with gutter guards installed. While guards significantly reduce the amount of debris that enters your gutters, they are not 100% effective.

Small debris such as pine needles, seedlings, algae, small leaves, and pebbles can pass through the guard's screen or mesh and accumulate over time. Clogs can also form if the guards themselves are not cleaned and become overwhelmed with debris on top, preventing water from entering the gutter.

If this buildup is neglected, it can lead to clogs, water leaks, mold growth, and even plants sprouting from the gutters. The primary benefit of gutter guards is not the complete elimination of maintenance, but a dramatic reduction in how often you need to perform it, often from several times a year to just once a year or less.

Failing to clean your gutters can lead to serious and costly damage. When leaves and other debris cause blockages, water cannot drain properly and will overflow. This can lead to water pooling around your home’s foundation, causing basement flooding and structural damage. The overflow can also damage your roof, siding, and fascia boards, with the constant moisture promoting mold, mildew, and rot. The weight of wet debris can cause gutters to sag or break, while stagnant water creates a breeding ground for pests like mosquitoes and rodents. Additionally, runoff can damage landscaping or freeze on driveways and patios, causing cracks. To prevent these issues, it is recommended to clean your gutters at least once or twice a year.
