There are many types of leaf guards, and it’s worth researching what kind is best for the type of debris and foliage your gutters collect.

While gutters really only offer pros without any cons, some people dislike the appearance of gutters. Upgrading to an architectural option can help you to reduce the eyesore caused by mainstream gutters. In addition, some types of gutters are prone to expanding, contracting, or sagging if they aren't properly maintained. If enough weight builds up within a gutter system, your gutters can begin to pull away from your home.

It’s technically possible to remove some soffit material without removing your gutters, but it’s usually a good idea to remove gutters, fascia, and soffit and then reinstall them in the opposite order.   • Add downspout extension at the end. You can also add an additional downspout to the end of the “elbow” as a way to extend the water further out into your yard. Some hardware stores sell downspouts with a flexible extension that you can maneuver around your yard.

The above alternatives are great options if your gutters are above a slab foundation that you wouldn’t want to dig up. One downside to these methods is if your yard slopes back upwards to your home, then the water won’t actually flow away. In which case, burying your downspouts if the best option to avoid flooding and water damage to your home.
