"I called about 30 heating and cooling guys and few of them would talk to me and never call back with the estimate. Few came in and gave me an estimate and one of them told me that I require a 4 ton. Airflow from Jacksonville came out and measured the house and came up with a 2.5 ton unit requirement just as I calculated and installed it. Pricing was better than anybody else. I would give him something higher than A across all categories."

While they may not be as popular as they once were, radiators today come with more energy-efficient features that can make them practical for modern homeowners.

Yes. In many cases, switching from an old furnace to a high-efficiency boiler can help you save money over time. You can also save money by switching from an electric boiler to a gas boiler, which costs much less compared to the energy bills an electric boil can create. Boilers are often (but not always) more efficient than furnaces, too. Then there are discounts, rebates, and incentives that can help you save on the initial costs.

Using heating oil to heat your home has its advantages, but it also has its disadvantages. 

Consider these drawbacks before installing a heating oil system:

  • Heating oil prices fluctuate frequently

  • Risk of oil spills or leaks

  • Produces more air pollution and soot compared to a gas furnace

  • Regular maintenance required for equipment

  • Need to reorder heating oil consistently to avoid running out

Generally, an oil furnace is considered safer than a gas furnace for several reasons. While both types of furnaces can produce carbon monoxide, a leak in an oil furnace is easier to detect due to the smell. Oil furnaces also don't connect to a gas pipeline, which reduces the chance of a fuel leak. Most importantly, heating oil is not combustible, whereas natural gas is highly flammable. However, waiting until the summer to buy is often unavoidable unless you install a separate storage tank. You could quickly recuperate these costs, though, by stocking up on heating oil in the summer and avoiding deliveries in the winter when prices are highest.
