"I spoke with the FloorMX manager, and I am ready to move forward with the flooring project. Two workers came to install the floor but did not complete the trim. They promised to return, but after multiple days of waiting?from Wednesday to Saturday?they never showed up again. When a worker finally did come, he claimed the job was finished, but it clearly wasn?t. We paid the manager, the owner of the contract, and were told we?d receive follow-ups with photos, yet no one followed through. This repeated mismanagement has left us with an incomplete floor and broken promises. I will not recommend this company. "

You can paint directly on laminate surfaces. However, the preparation steps generally determine how long the paint will last and the finish quality. Laminate has a very slick surface that discourages things like grease, oil, dirt, and other substances from sticking to it. While that's great for staying clean, the slick surface also makes it difficult for paint to stick without at least some prep work.

It’s a good idea to sand your porch before painting. This will remove loose or chipped paint and debris, and give you a cleaner surface so that your new paint goes on smoothly. But if the existing surface is in good condition, it’s not necessary to sand your porch before you paint.

Painting over cracks without repairing them first will simply lead to needing to fix them later. They will reappear in short order. Usually, just a bit of spackle and a putty knife before painting will do the trick. However, if there are significant cracks, find the source of the problem and fix it before moving forward.

While your painters may have a certain price point in mind based on the materials and labor they estimate it will take to paint your house, it may be possible to negotiate with contractors, especially if you have multiple quotes to use as leverage. (A painter may be willing to offer some leeway to keep your business.) You might also be able to score a better deal by paying for your services upfront or bundling multiple services.

Newer paint cans often come with an “easy pour” spout with a twist lid. These can be tricky to open, but the key is to grip the spout cover with your fingers and twist it counter-clockwise. There should be a raised ridge in the middle to make it easy to grab. For more standard twist lids, you can try prying the lid off by turning it with your hands, as you would a jar, or running it under warm water.
