"They did a great job. Cole and Dylan were helpful and very communicative -- we appreciated that they showed us before/after photos of our air ducts and specifically described the work that was performed. Would definitely hire again."

"Working with Breathe Cleaner Aire was a fantastic experience. When I made my initial inquiry, Mark called the same day and stated that he was close by and would like to stop over to see the work. He arrived 5 minutes later. Mark noticed from the ground that there was a grate blocking air flow from my dryer roof vent. He said that should be removed. Mark was easy to work with to schedule a time and he actually worked with a few of my neighbors. Mark and Adam arrived on time on the designated date and completed the job in a very short time. Extremely professional, courteous, and went above and beyond to be sure things were clean when they left. They are now my "Go To Company" for any vent cleaning."

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

There are several AC unit problems to troubleshoot, but luckily you can identify them by keeping a close eye on your system. Look out for the following signs that your AC needs repair:

  • Unusual noises during operation

  • AC unit blows warm air

  • AC unit doesn’t come on or turn off with temperature changes

  • Strange odors come through the vents

  • AC unit cycles on and off rapidly

  • Indoor air is more humid or less comfortable than usual

  • AC unit keeps tripping your breaker

  • Fan in the outdoor compressor doesn’t operate when the AC is on

At a minimum, an HVAC system should be serviced once per year. However, a twice-a-year service schedule—once in the spring for the cooling system and once in the fall for the heating system—is often recommended, especially for older systems, heat pumps, or in climates with extreme temperatures. Regular service, which includes inspection, cleaning, and maintenance, ensures the system runs efficiently, helps prevent costly breakdowns during peak seasons, and can extend the unit's lifespan. You can also schedule a service if you notice issues like poor performance or strange noises.

You can buy a new AC capacitor through most big-box home improvement stores, from an HVAC contractor, or from the manufacturer. Use the model number of your air conditioning unit to make sure you purchase the right part for your unit. Also, keep in mind that the cost of this type of part can vary significantly depending on who you purchase it from, so shop around to get the best price.

Window AC units use a fair amount of electricity, but significantly less than central AC systems. Because they are more energy-efficient for cooling individual rooms or small spaces, their usage is comparatively low. On average, a window AC unit consumes between 500 and 1,400 watts, while a central AC system uses over 3,500 watts—meaning a window unit uses about one-third of the energy. This typically translates to a monthly running cost of $15 to $40, although this can vary depending on external factors.

It all depends on the unit’s SEER (seasonal energy efficiency ratio). A higher SEER rating means better efficiency and lower costs for your energy bills.

Take a look at the product you’re considering purchasing and compare it to other models to decide which one is affordable upfront but will keep your energy costs low over time.
