While some water loss from splashing and evaporation is normal, a rapid or excessive drop in the water level may indicate a leak. Other signs of a pool leak include unexplained soft or wet spots in the yard, cracks in the pool structure or falling tiles, higher-than-normal water bills, persistent algae growth or water discoloration, and standing water around the pump, pipes, or other pool equipment.
Aboveground pools take between one day to a few days to install, depending on the pool size and type. Your project may take longer if you’re planning to complete other projects simultaneously, like building a deck around the pool. If your land is hilly or rocky, you’ll also need to budget time for the land preparation. Aboveground pools need to be installed on a level surface.
While you can use a grounding rod when bonding an in-ground pool, that’s necessarily the best option. A grounding rod is an older grounding method that’s not usually used anymore, thanks to modern electrical design and services. Again, if you don’t have electrical experience, your best and safest bet is to hire a pool electrician.
Generally, you do not need to drain your pool to convert it to a saltwater system. The main exception is if you have used an antibacterial agent containing polyhexamethylene biguanide to sanitize your pool, as these sanitation products do not mix well with saltwater systems. If this is the case, you will need to start fresh. You can either drain the pool or treat the existing water with a high dose of chlorine to remove the antibacterial agent. If you choose the chlorine treatment, wait several days to allow the chlorine to work before proceeding with the conversion. There are some companies that offer acid washes that do not require pool draining. However, the process can take several days and requires a bit more elbow grease to scrub the pool surface compared to draining it entirely. Since your pool surface and age are both a factor, work with a professional to choose the best method.
