"Mr. Ellis was hired to assemble sunroom which he only came out on a Saturday to work on. We thought he was doing ok until we found out he had cut and electric socket in half and never told us, and also left cement all over frame, windows & house from pulling up lenoleum rug he had terribly installed and we told him it was terrible. He agreed and said he would replace it. He went to a carpet store and purchased himself and never came back to install floor. He sent us a text on April 17th and said carpet came in and he would come Saturday morning @ 8am to install the carpet and never showed up or called. My husband called him twice before sending the text with no return call. We sent him a tex on April 26 with no response today. At this point, we do not care for him to return to do nothing else. He left with the carpet not finished, tools to anchor sunroom down, us having to replace socket and light on deck which was also destroyed. Also, one of roof panels he installed in wrong place. Also, the plywood he purchased and installed is already cracking up and needs replacing. Would like to get thhis finished ASAP."

Dry rot or severe water damage may warrant a replacement, but you don’t always need to replace damaged subflooring. If your subfloor has warped because it was installed incorrectly, you can sometimes shim the panels (in other words, add a thin, wedge-shaped piece of wood to level the surface). If your subfloor bows upward, you may be able to sand it down at the joist so it’s level, depending on the extent of the damage.

You can tell a carpet is good quality if it’s made of a soft, durable material and has a good face weight and density. When comparing two similar carpets, the higher the face weight, the more durable the carpet tends to be. The same goes for carpet density. A higher density of two similar carpets often indicates better quality. The ideal carpet face weight and density values depend on the carpet material and type. 

To prepare a floor for a steam mop, it’s essential to vacuum or sweep the floor thoroughly to remove dirt, dust, pet hair, and other debris. Skipping this step can lead to streaky results and may cause you to simply spread grime instead of removing it. Worse, hard debris can scratch or damage delicate floors like hardwood or laminate. Proper prep helps ensure a truly clean and protected surface.

A 65-oz. carpet is good, and in many cases, it indicates a premium carpet. Most carpets for homes should fall in the range of 40 to 60 ounces for face weight. If a carpet has a 65-oz. face weight, it is likely more durable and long-lasting than a similar carpet with a lower face weight. Carpet face weight is just one factor in determining a carpet’s quality. 

Plywood is the best type of subfloor for a mobile home, though if you’re installing flooring in a bathroom, you may want to install a vapor barrier or use a moisture-proof subfloor material like Amdry. OBS is similar, but it can swell when moisture is present. 

Either way, old mobile home subflooring made from particleboard can cause issues with your joints. If you’re replacing your subfloor, it’s best to upgrade to plywood.
