"Gerry and his crew built us a screened in covered porch/deck. It was a great choice. The crew worked hard and and finished the work in a couple of weeks. The deck is a huge improvement over what we had before, and exactly what we were looking for. The construction is solid and well built. Working with Gerry is easy, and very straightforward, I absolutely recommend DDK!"

"Jesse Summerlin and his crew were wonderful. On time, polite, cleaned everything up and did a fantastic job. This was a limited repair but I will call him soon to redo the rest of the deck with confidence that I will get an exceptional job. Thank you Jesse and crew!"

"Luis and his team were absolutely wonderful. They are quick but meticulous with their work. They go the extra mile to make sure it comes out just as the customer requested. Their pricing is awesome as well. Honestly we have done 3 projects with them and have always been so happy with the work they have done."

"He called me immediately after I selected him on my screen, 30 minutes later, he was knocking on my door and an hour after that the gutter was fixed, and he was gone.!! My only problem was he has a heavy foreign accent in his speech and my hearing is very bad so I had trouble conversing with him.!! He was very considerate of my problem and tried his best to help me with the problem.!! Sam G."

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

The overhang, or nosing, of deck steps is another area that will be covered in building code requirements. The noses on your deck steps should have a minimum overhang of ¾ inch. For safety, usability, and code compliance, the nosing of deck steps should not extend past 1¼ inches.

No, termites do not eat Trex or any other composite decking brand. Termites eat cellulose, of which composite decking like Trex contains very little compared to natural wood. This feature can help justify the higher Trex decking costs if you live in an area with abundant termites.

Rot loves moisture, so deck rot typically impacts the parts of a board that stay wet. This includes the underside of boards, in addition to support posts and joists. However, any part of a board can rot, given the right conditions.

Both a well-constructed deck and a patio can add value to your home. Patios are generally cheaper to build but don’t offer the same aesthetics as a quality deck. Therefore, decks can be more appealing to buyers than patios, increasing a home's resale value.

Before installing any materials under the deck for removing moisture, you should perform some prep work on the ground. Work the dirt under the deck to create a grade away from the home. A grade of at least six inches for every 10 feet works well. Do not leave a gap between the dirt and the home’s foundation where water could pool. Once you or a contractor regrades the dirt under the deck, you then can add materials over the top.
