"Excellent service and pricing. Did great job installing lights. Loved that they come out at night to display the lights so you can see the lighting effect at night. Also installed the lights at dusk to make sure they were aligned properly. Highly recommend them."

"My comments echo those of many others here. Jose Santos is the type of contractor that you appreciate in all respects. My initial phone call to his office was answered promptly and I was told he would call me back today. In fact, he called back within ten minutes and we scheduled him to come out the next morning, which he did on time, and with a call advising he was on his way. Once he arrived, he inspected the entire system and found two areas which were problems. He had the proper replacement parts on his truck and was able to complete the repair in about 2 hours. He cleaned up afterwards, but not before adjusting all zones in the system. Jose is friendly, easy to communicate with and not looking to rip you off. His prices are very reasonable, as well. I have had difficulty previously with larger companies both in terms of them not showing up as scheduled, or charging significantly more for similar work. I plan on having Jose do some landscaping projects in the fall and recommend him highly for any services you may require that he provides."

"Clive and Tracie were wonderful to work with! Nicest people you'll meet. Their team is very talented, polite and hard-working. We knew we wanted a patio and firepit but didn't have specific details in mind. In our initial meeting with Clive, he took the time to "interview" us to understand our tastes and needs. He put together a couple of designs that addressed all of our needs. Clive was very patient with us as we settled on the design that was right for us. Not only is the patio and fireplace beautiful, he included landscaping that provides shade and privacy, a dedicated space for our trampoline that balances our yard and lighting that looks fantastic at night. Clive goes the extra mile to please his customers. As the project was wrapping up, he called me from the nursery to ask what my wife's favorite color/ flower was so he could include them in the landscaping. Nice touch! I was pleasantly surprised when the job was complete, his team came out and pressure washed the back of the house near the area they worked. They also re-seeded the lawn on the path the heavy machinery traveled to the backyard. After the job was complete, I called Clive about one minor issue and he had his team came out the same day to make the correction. I would most definitely recommend Outdoor Artisan. It was a great experience. You may find cheaper, but not for this quality and level of service."

"Mt daughter just became a homeowner in Huntersville and we knew the back yard needed work when we bought the home. Being out of state in DE I looked up landscapers in her area, and found Intrinity Landscaping here on Angie's. On my 1st contact with Nick, I knew why he and his company get such high marks. Nick is very knowledgable of his products and this comes across immediately. The price was fair and his professionalism so I felt comfortabl letting him decide the best grass for her situation. Due to the rain and cooler weather, the install was pushed back, but he kept in contact to let us know it was still pending. Nick even arrived on a Sunday, while she was waiting for the install, and prepped her garden and even planted a tomato plant. Once ready to farm, the install went without a hitch and looks great...... AAAAA+++++

"M/I Electric did a great job and were the most reasonably priced.  They quoted over $100 less than four other companies.  Everything was very well done and no mess was left behind.  They even looked at a bathroom switch we had been having trouble and fixed that issue without adding other charges.  I would highly recommend them.

"I met Noel at the office & he gave me some background info on the company & explained their dedication to quality work & standing behind their work.  I indicated the color of granite I was interested in & looked at & selected a piece at their location.  The guy that measured for the countertops arrived on schedule & answered questions I had & shaped the countertop template to a more modern & attractive design.  The installers arrived on schedule & countertops were installed & look great.  Very pleased with the process & finished product.

Lighting questions, answered by experts

The average cost to install outdoor or landscape lighting is around $4,000, with most projects ranging from $2,000 to $6,000. The total cost can vary widely depending on several factors, including the number of fixtures, design complexity, and the type and quality of the lights used, such as wall sconces, pathway lights, or lamp posts. Other factors that influence the price are the square footage of the area being lit, the amount of electrical work needed, any required excavation or trenching, and local permitting costs. For specific types, you might pay around $100 for pathway or string lighting and up to $700 for lamp post lighting.

Your maintenance needs revolve around the type of foundation you choose, as well as how you furnish or decorate it. Patios require little else other than the occasional hose-down, but decks and other wooden structures will require annual power washing and sealing. You may also need to restain the wood every two to three years.

Adding a solid roof rather than building a pergola or leaving the space open will make maintenance much easier. Without a roof, you will need to spend more time sweeping, washing, and covering your furniture to protect it from UV bleaching.

You can take a few steps to prolong the life of your holiday lights. Make sure to replace burnt-out bulbs as quickly as possible to avoid overloading the rest of the circuit and knocking out more lights. Before packing them up each year, plug each strand into the wall to confirm everything is still working. Wrap the lights carefully back into their original packaging or something similar—winding a strand tightly together or leaving it to hang loose in a storage bin can lead to frayed or damaged wiring.

Modern outdoor light fixtures are waterproof and weather resistant, and, provided they’re installed correctly and by a professional, the fixture and wiring can last for 20 to 30 years or more. The lifespan will depend largely on the quality of the fixture. The lifespan of the bulb will depend on the type of light you install:

  • CFL bulb (for sustained use): 15,000 hours

  • Halogen bulb (mostly for security): 2,000 hours

  • HID bulbs (for security): 12,000 hours

  • Incandescent bulb: 1,000 hours

  • LED bulb: 50,000 hours

Local building codes typically require conduit around exterior wiring. Conduit protects the wire from moisture, extreme temperatures, sun exposure, and harsh weather conditions to prolong its lifespan. When a wire is worn out, it can be dangerous as the risk of electric shock or fire increases.
