"Perfect! Joe and his crew were excellent to work with. Our space presented some unique challenges, but they handled everything very well. I’d absolutely hire them for another remodel project."

"EXCELLENT craftsmanship. Super high quality work. Very communicative - never ghosted us or left us in the dark. Five stars on all of that!! The only reason I don't give 5 stars overall is the timeline. We were originally quoted 8-10 weeks for our screened porch and it took a lot longer. There were things out of his control that contributed to that, so we understood. And again, he kept us in the loop. He also built us a new shed during that time and that slowed down the progress of the porch as well. We loved Calvin and would be happy to have him do more work for us."

"STOP NOW. LOOK NO FURTHER. If you are looking for deck work - these are the guys. They were on time, every time. They followed up when they said they would. They listened to what we wanted and added suggestions based on their experience and understanding. Seriously - I was impressed with the level of customer service, their overall concern for our satisfaction and the outcome of the project. Don't spend any more time looking for a deck contractor. "We found Julian and were ultimately very pleased with the outcome. Julian, and the entire team at J.Mozeley interiors, was very professional throughout the entire experience. She kept in constant communication, was thorough in every detail, and considerate of our ideas and (mostly my) wants and wish list. She was timely in meeting projected deadlines, as were the other contractors she recommended we work with. Jules was always reassuring and she took our ideas and conceptualized them perfectly. She is a very tasteful designer and made us feel very comfortable, even as she brought in other workers to complete projects. Her work family is very professional and we thought they did an awesome job. I LOVED the 3D model of the space she uses to show her design ideas and suggestions, I felt like I was in an HGTV show! And, we would have stayed on budget, had I not splurged on some extra decor. It wasn’t too much over though, so my husband was happy (ha)!"

"EXCELLENT WORK! I scheduled to have the interior of my house painted and the pergola/landscaping timbers painted out back. I had a bunch of dents in my walls due to the kids I have. This company did a really great job of filling the holes and painting plus their proces were economical as well. They were prompt and worked efficiently to get the job done! I would definitely hire again plus they mentioned that they do exterior siding!"

"Ernesto was amazing! responded from my initial inquiry on Angies List within hours. Then came to my house within a couple days and gave me quote. Very reasonable considering the amount of work I needed...from there it only got better....he worked non stop till job was complete. My walls and ceiling were originally stained pine wood, by the time Ernesto was done they looked like factory painted cabinetry. Other contractors have asked for his number because they were so impressed . I would 100% hire again (and plan to)."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Most load-bearing walls are exterior, though they can also be interior.

The average cost of DIY window framing is about $40 to $60 in materials. If you hire a window treatment professional, you’ll pay for materials plus labor costs—anywhere from $250 to $800 per window. The final cost is highly dependent on the window size, as larger windows are heavier and more difficult to install, as well as the type of window framing material.

You may need a permit to install your window seat. Even though it's an indoor modification, some municipalities require permits for any built-ins added to homes. Check with your carpenter or, if you're DIY-ing, do some research on your city's requirements.

Yes, a 2x6 should hold a porch swing and safely support the load. A smaller joist runs the risk of it not offering enough support for the swing. If you have a joist smaller than 2x6, add additional bolstering support.

Yes, ceiling joists are typically load-bearing. However, their primary function is to support the weight of the ceiling and loads applied to it, like lighting fixtures and ceiling fans. They can also help support the roof, especially if they’re part of truss systems. Remember, the load-bearing capacity of ceiling joists depends on the material, size, and space between them.
