"My only dealing with Newcomb was when they surveyed my neighbors’ yard and I must say, it was one of the worst experiences I’ve had. Obviously, my neighbor and I share a property line so the Newcomb employees were wandering around my property line, which happens to be in woods behind my house. So, when I noticed weird people I didn’t know wandering around my property line, like any responsible home owner, I went to find out what was happening. The conversation went as follows: Me: May I help you? Newcomb: No Me: What are you doing in the woods? Newcomb: I’m not on your property Me: What are you doing? Newcomb: A survey (they then proceeded to turn their back on me and walk away) So Newcomb, during a pandemic when my family is stuck at home you are sending your employees to wander my property line making everyone inside nervous about why someone we don’t know is wandering our property line and when they are asked about it they manage to cause even more fear by being dismissive, defensive and disrespectful to people. Is this really the best way you could be handling things during this time? Can you not just consider the overall anxiety everyone is feeling right now and coach your employees to better handle these situations? Maybe they could just explain they are doing a survey for the neighbor and they should be out of there quickly. I would have said thank you and nobody in my home would have had nightmares thinking that strange men were going to be lurking in the woods. Or do you truly not care that your employees are out there making people feel uncomfortable and scared in their own homes during a time when they have no choice but to stay home? Why did you feel the need to come scare my family when there was no need?"

"I would like to add to my previous review. The surveyor I hired to complete the second survey, Harold Todd Smith, came this morning three days after I called him. He said "the stake you thought was missing is still there. It's on the other side of the fence between your house and your neighbor's." I can't believe the guy from Boundary Zone didn't point this out to me. I'm pretty sure I described the fence to him as my neighbor's. He had every reason to suspect as much, since it matches the ugly wire fence that runs around my neighbor's entire back yard. At any rate, the fence actually CROSSES the boundary line. It seems like that would have been worth a mention whether I described the fence as my neighbor's or not. So, because the guy was incompetent as well as rude, I paid $200 for another survey. So, at this point, I could not recommend Boundary Zone to do even a run-of-the-mill boundary survey."

"He did a great job. He was here that morning and when he had completed the job he walked the property w me and staked out the property lines. I hired the company bc my neighbor behind me tried to say her property actually went 5 ft. beyond the fence she had put years ago. I was putting a privacy fence in place & she would no longer be able to see my roses or be nosy. Lol Well turns out she was wrong & my property line was much larger than I thought. Worth every penny. Fence going in next week!"

Land Surveying questions, answered by experts

Land survey reports have a boatload of information relevant to several scenarios. Here are the types of information contained with a survey, though it depends on your chosen type of land survey. Exact boundaries and dimensions of a given property General topography, including both natural and artificial landmarks Location of utility fixtures, like water mains Confirmation of any easements or encroachments on a piece of property Assessment of land elevation to buy flood insurance Updated information to add to a pre-existing property map

A land survey includes the layout of a single property, including precise measurements and to-scale drawings of boundary lines, land improvements, and sometimes other features, like topography and drainage information. A plat map includes the layouts and boundary lines of several adjacent plots and basic structure measurements. Surveys are normally more valuable for homeowners and buyers, and plat maps are for governmental use.

When considering the price of drilling a well, factor in how much you’ll save in water costs per year. The average family of four uses 100 gallons of water per person per day in the U.S. With a private water well, you can save hundreds each year.

Wells are also environmentally friendly. You don’t need to worry about drinking water treated with chemicals. Talk to at least three well pump contractors in your area. They’ll be able to tell you more about your options, give you different quotes, and discuss the biggest concerns.

To prepare for a land survey, you must thoroughly check your land surveyor’s qualifications, reviews, and fees to align with your expectations. When it is time for the survey to be conducted, ensure that you have all your documents organized and available, know and mark your property lines, and inform your neighbors that the survey is happening.

It is almost always necessary to hire a land surveyor near you to ensure your fence sits on the right side of the property line. Mistaking the shape of your property can lead to fines and costly changes if you have to move or adjust the privacy fence—not to mention some surly looks from your neighbor. We recommend jumpstarting your fence planning in the spring to ensure there is plenty of time to map out your plan before construction season.
