"Lesson learned. Always get an estimate. BEFORE the work is done. At least a digital copy. Arrangements for the project were made, with some one named Lynn, for the company to send someone to complete the work. We were quoted over the phone 4500-5000 which included a mold test. A sub contractor with an entirely different company (National Mold Company) was sent. When the contractor arrived, he stated that the job would be much more simpler than first thought. This led us to believe that the job would cost less, no. All said and done, they charged $5500. All said and done, it's almost like no work was done. The stains and the smell are still there. Only one actual board was taken upon the attic room. The ceiling in the bedroom was primed and painted but are still visible and have a funky smell. At this point I'm going to. Do what we should have done; Do the job ourselves. Just now with $5500 less dollars in our pockets. A detailed receipt was not given even though it was requested."

We are a restoration contractor who specializes in water mitigation, contents cleaning, and structural repairs after a water or fire loss. We pride our organization on customer service during and after a loss. We try to walk you thru an insurance loss step by step as most people only have one in their life. We are a franchise organization that is independently owned and this office serves 6 counties.

"Paul Davis Restoration was recommended by our insurance company when we sustained damage to our porch from a fallen tree in March. The man who came out to inspect it assured us that the estimate would be uploaded to our insurance by that Wednesday. Wednesday came and went...no estimate. I called the Asheville office, where an employee told me that the report had to go through a "third party to be approved" before it could be submitted to State Farm. 'Mike' hadn't explained any of this to us. This woman assured me that it should be submitted no later than "next Wednesday." Yet another week passes...no estimate. I called the office again, where I was told that I needed to contact 'Mike' for any information. I did just that, and he claimed that he was not in the office, and that he would have to check on it when he got there. Another 24 hours passes without a phone call. When I called him again, he casually mentioned that this mysterious "third party" had sent his report back to him for a couple of corrections, and that it should uploaded to our insurance by (you guessed it) no later than that next Wednesday. ('Mike's customer service skills certainly left something to be desired.) Once more, nothing. The next time that I called, I asked to speak with someone in charge. I was given the name of the owner, 'Sharon.' The first couple of interactions with her were positive, and she seemed very helpful. Yet, once again, this "third party" was blamed for the significant delays in sending our estimate to State Farm. After a couple of communications back and forth, my husband and I were extremely frustrated by ANY lack of progress. I finally texted Sharon and asked her to send our estimate directly to us. She informed that 48 hours after the estimate was finalized, that they were 'allowed' to give it to us, and she would email it to me in the morning. Next day? Nothing. Once again, I had to text her and ask that it be sent to me. Sharon claimed that she thought she had sent it, but would send it again. And, since I'm writing this review, you can guess what happened...NOTHING. We NEVER received a copy of our estimate. I called State Farm, where one of the agents handling our claim said that they had finally received it, but that he doubted they would pay out the total amount for the work, because it looked as if the estimate given was excessive. Needless to say, it is over a MONTH later, we still have a severely damaged, unstable porch, and are looking for another contractor/restoration company. I have since heard from reliable sources that my husband and I are not the only ones who have had bad experiences with this particular office. Delay, excuses, confusion, and lack of meaningful customer service were the only things that we took away from our encounter with Paul Davis Restoration of Greater Asheville."

"It didn't go well, and I ended up cancelling the contract after they powerwashed. They arrived and began the powerwashing. Something they said to my husband made me think they were subcontractors. This was later confirmed to me by the company, however, was not told to me until I inquired. I didn't receive a certificate of liability insurance nor the workers comp insurance form. They finished the powerwashing and upon leaving when I went outside they left me a total mess. I had clumps of mud and muddy shoe prints about 1 1/2 foot from my door and extended about 10 feet. They didn't wash the brick facade on the front, but did do another area of brick. I was told all brick would be cleaned. I should have taken pictures of how the property was left but my immediate concern was not having guests and animals track the dirt inside. The contract indicated clean up was important and would be done daily before they left, not so with these 2 guys. When I called the company Monday morning (this occured late Friday afternoon), I was never offered another crew, which could have saved the contract. I was then informed that ALL their workers were subcontractors and they had their own insurance, I never saw anything. My concern of course was, if this is what they do with powerwashing what will happen when they start slinging paint. On their website you see professionallooking people in uniforms, heaven knows where they got these 2 guys, maybe from day labor. Their truck indicated they were handymen, not painters. I paid for the so called powerwashing and the paint which they already purchased and count myself lucky to be done with this company as I'm pretty sure it would not have gotten better."

"David did substantial work to repair foundation damage that was found during removal of a large tree that fell during the Helene storm. The foundation was bulging/collapsing inwards below grade to the interior of an earthen basement. The project needed more than a canned approach, which several other foundation contractors described that they could do. David explained several options for addressing the failure and stabilizing the foundation over the longer term. I was impressed by his thinking and very satisfied by the work. He was able to do the work in a timely fashion during a period when he was working on quite serious road and foundation repair projects resulting from Helene damage. I would absolutely hire him again."

Lead Testing and Removal questions, answered by experts

Several different measurements may be used to determine the amount of lead in water. The most common unit of measurement is micrograms per liter (µg/L), which is the same as parts per billion. Another measurement is milligrams per liter (mg/L), which is the same as parts per million.

How you test for lead in your water depends on the source of your home's water supply. If you have municipal water, your local water system may offer to test the water for free or may connect you to a lab that will perform the testing.

If you have a private well that provides drinking water, you are responsible for testing it for lead. Look for a lab that is accredited by your state's Department of Environmental Protection to perform the test.

The EPA broadly defines hazardous waste as any waste that could pose a danger to humans or the environment. More specifically, it includes any material that could combust or explode under normal temperatures and pressure, as well as materials that are toxic or corrosive. Some common household hazardous waste products include aerosol cans, paint cans, old tires, medical supplies, unused medications, fire extinguishers, cleaning solutions, and lawn care products.

Lead exposure poses serious health risks, particularly for children, and can be present in paint, pipes, and soil.

While not all homes built before 1978 contain lead paint, enough do, so you’ll still want to test to be on the safe side. The federal government banned lead-based paint for homes in 1978, but your state may have banned lead before that time. Around 24% of homes built between 1960 and 1977 contained lead-based paint, while 87% of homes built before 1940 contained lead-based paint.
