Small jobs welcome

"Jesse did an outstanding job! He transformed our back deck by installing a railing and gutters, He repaired the flooring and the steps leading off the deck and added non-slip strips. He also power-washed the house and, noticing some minor issues, made some additional suggestions and repairs. Jesse was very friendly. and pleasant. The cost was reasonable and the work was completed in a timely fashion. We couldn’t be happier with the results. We recommend Renaissance Property Services wholeheartedly and without reservation. Great job!"

Customers say: Super punctual

"The old, wood retaining wall was removed and replaced with a stone block wall over 4 days, rain or shine. The crews were great and very punctual, did a tremendous job and cleaned the site up before they left. The crew leader was exceptionally personable and helped us with some changes (fabric and mulch) along the way. We will definitely be using them for future projects!"

Customers say: True professional

"Excellent. I will definitely hire them again. They were punctual and found two more holes that needed to be replaced. They moved furniture out of the room, did the repair and cleaned up when they were done."

"Dario & his crew did an amazing job with our house. They had the task of painting walls (some walls paneling), cabinets, doors, windows, trim, and ceiling. Basically the entire house. They started on a Monday & finished on Friday. I didn’t stop in to check progress any at all so when I saw the house it was completely done. I was blown away. They did a fantastic job. I cannot brag about this team enough. I would hire Custom Painting Asheville for any and all of my painting needs! I am beyond 100% satisfied with their work! If I could give them 10 stars I would. The price was also very reasonable which made it even better! Thank you Custom Painting of Asheville for transforming our house!"

"Highest recommendations. If I could rate Paintasheville.com better than FIVE stars, I would. The care and attention showed by our two man crew (Damien and Elbin) was exceptional. The job lasted 11 days, over a period of two weeks, and involved four colors. They were early to start, late to leave, and methodically organized about every aspect of the job. You would have thought it was their beloved cottage -- not ours. It was a marvel to watch and others noticed as well. Before the job was over, six neighbors had requested referrals. The same can be said for the carpenter, Maurizio, who repaired our siding prior to the job. Thank you Crystal, Chris, April, the supervisors and, of course, our crew."

Wall Repair FAQs, answered by experts

Failure to compact the soil during construction is the most common cause of leaning retaining walls. In addition, poor drainage can lead to excessive water pressure behind a retaining wall, pushing against it until it begins to move forward away from the soil it is holding back.

They prevent soil erosion, add flat space, and enhance property aesthetics.

Sand and gravel are two suitable options for filling behind a retaining wall. If you’re building your own retaining wall, you’ll complete this part of the process—known as backfilling—after you finish laying the blocks. Make sure not to skip it—otherwise, you could wind up with drainage issues, which can cause your retaining wall to collapse.

Costs range from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on size, material, and design complexity.

Each design is different, so we can’t say definitively if you’ll need a dedicated drainage system in place for a two-foot retaining wall. However, you can likely skip the drainage, as this project is typically served for walls that are 4 feet tall or more. Even with a relatively low wall, consider drainage if you are building on top of clay or poor-draining soil types or if there are buried water sources nearby, like a well used for other outdoor garden projects.
