"Excellent father and son team replaced old smoke alarms throughout the house and hard wired them with zero damage to ceilings. They showed me how the alarms will work for good peace of mind. Also fixed wiring to my backyard outdoor lights and got them up and functioning again. Great work on both projects!"

"Brandon did an excellent job. I added a second fan on after he arrived and it took longer than expected but he had to fix existing problems. Very professional. I would recommend them and use them again."

"Josh from Blackbeard Electric was phenomenal! I called today with an issue with a ceiling fan w/lightsâ ¦ I was changing a bulb that was out, and it popped and sizzled as soon as I removed the bulb and I could smell a brief smell of electrical wires smoldering!! Josh showed up and assessed the issue quickly! The wires/motor in the remote box had fried! You could see charred burn marks on the wires, casing and circuit board. Josh had taken down the old fan and replaced it with a new one I ran out to purchase within 1 hour!! Josh was tidy, polite, friendly and extremely knowledgeable in his field! For a credible, highly recommended, licensed and insured electrician to come out same-day, I was expecting a hefty invoice! I was completely shocked (haha) when he gave me the total cost! I will definitely use Blackbeard Electric/Josh for any of my future electrical needsâ ¦ and I highly recommend that you do too!!"

"The installer wasn't able to install the complete attic fan because of the roofing but he did a partial installation to keep the weather out of the attic. He did suggest if I re-roofed the house to let him know and he would come back and install the fan. I thought $150 was rather expensive however, it does keep the rain out of my attic causing more damage."

"

I have used them for small things like wall sockets and ceiling fans, they don't replace faucets .I really thought about dropping them because

at 50.00/month and not using them that is $600.00 /year I could save. I guess I have Paid for 3 washers since I've used them. They could definitely be a benefit to so one with an older home. I give them a grade of A.

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Identifying the source of noises is your first step to soundproofing a room without overspending. Generally, sound comes from inside or outside of the house. Inside noises include creaking floors, living noises like TVs in the living room, cooking sounds, or kids being kids. External noises generally include incremental weather, disturbing neighbors, and street traffic. Inside noises require you to soundproof floors, ceilings, and doors, whereas outside noises may require you to soundproof your attic, windows, and walls facing the streets.

No, a ceiling fan doesn’t have to be wired to a switch, but it’s often more convenient. You can use the included pull chain if your ceiling isn’t too high or install a remote module later, as they are a cheap, easy-to-install option that’ll let you control both the fan and light fixture.

There are many types of ceiling fans, from self-automated smart ceiling fans to outdoor ceiling fans that provide additional comfort to your patio. What you choose all comes down to function and personal taste.

Consider your ceiling height when selecting a ceiling fan. Rooms with ceilings under eight feet high will do well with low-profile ceiling fans, also known as flush-mount or hugger ceiling fans. If your home has cathedral ceilings or ceilings between 10 and 25 feet high, you’ll need a large ceiling fan with a heavy-duty motor to get adequate air circulation.

Fan power is measured by CFM, or cubic feet per minute. For every 1,000 feet of square footage in your attic, you need a minimum of 700 CFM. Steeper roofs may need larger fans or about 840 CFM.  You can figure the size of attic fan you need by multiplying the square footage of your attic floor by 0.7. (multiply by 1.2 for a steep roof and 1.15 for a dark roof). That number is the CFM required for your fan to run efficiently.

The most efficient ceiling fan height is 8 to 9 feet from the floor to the fan blades. For ceilings higher than 9 feet, a downrod can be used to lower the fan to the optimal height. This positioning ensures adequate air circulation and maximizes the cooling effect. Remember, fans should be installed at least 7 feet above the floor for safety.
