- Gibson's Grading And ConstructionI had such a mess! The first time my finished basement flooded it came in the door. The next TWO times it came in the back wall at the ground level--after I had the huge pool filled in. David designed a solution for the side yard that included diverting the water down the driveway and into the street drain. He did a gravel-filled drain across the end of the drive. He was going to do a driveway channel drain and grate across the drive in front of the garage and exterior door but found there was a sewage pipe there, so he designed another gravel drain there. The backyard got multiple drains at different levels down the length of the yard. As soon as that was complete, the side of the house, which was ALWAYS wet, dried out completely! David is so professional. He explains his plans in depth so you know what's going to happen. He put down grass seed and straw, moved and then replanted plants, and had to dispose of huge pieces of cement that came out of the yard where the pool was. I can't say how pleased I am to have my house safeguarded. David is the real deal

The day that he was scheduled to arrive, he was punctual and gave an honest, straight forward bid for the job we needed done - a breath of fresh air, and quite a change from the no-shows and inflated, over priced bids we had gotten before! He was friendly, knowledgeable, and was experienced in exactly the types of job we needed him to perform. I have no doubt that he could have gotten the job done in a timely and professional manner. Ultimately, we opted to use another company, but only because the cost of materials was lower as their material is sourced from the same mountain we are located on. We would highly recommend David Gibson to anyone looking for an excavator in the greater Asheville area
- Gibson's Grading And ConstructionDavid is a consummate professional who cares about his work and doing a job correctly. He was also exemplary in visiting the site and drawing up an estimate for the work. This project was perhaps a small one in many respects but a huge one in others. I inherited a long narrow driveway (approximately 11 feet wide by 55+ long) with a steep (40 degree) rise from the street and sidewalk. A previous owner had dumped and spread about 5 times as much gravel as was needed. It spilled over to the adjoining property and always onto the sidewalk and street. Negotiating room for equipment is nil. On one side is my house, directly on the driveway. On the other side, with one foot of intervening ground, is the cottage next door. The gas line is located on the edge of the drive by the house. The sewer line runs straight down the center of the driveway. Two sewer access outlets are also in the center of the drive. On the far side, by the slope, is a 50-year old oak tree with roots. Despite these unarguable obstacles, David (and his father) came in as pleasant and patient as possible with my unending questions and worked efficiently to create a silk purse out of a sow's ear. I am beyond pleased. I strongly recommend David and would hire him again in a heartbeat
- Gibson's Grading And ConstructionI contacted David Gibson on March 12 and he came out that afternoon to give me an estimate. The project was delayed twice because of weather, but both times, he contacted me quickly to reschedule. When the weather did allow, he came out exactly when he said he would and did an extremely thorough and professional job. The problem turned out to be more extensive than anticipated--the original culvert was actually constructed out of 55 gallon oil drums rather than pipe. David discussed options with me, and we decided that it would be best to replace the entire culvert (which runs the length of the property) ASAP with the heavy duty plastic triple-wall culvert that he used on the first section rather than allow the other sections to rust out. We are planning to have the rest of the culvert, replaced in mid-May and David is passing along the discount that he received from the vendor for buying more than three sections of culvert. It's never good to discover that your problem is worse than you anticipated, but I am very glad to have Gibson Grading working on it. I would recommend them very highly to anyone

David rearranged his schedule to help us make the closing happen. His expertise solved the problem by installing French drains around the entire house. He also removed paneling in the basement and repaired cracks in the foundation wall and water proofed the walls. Problem solved. David went above and beyond what we expected and helped us solve a problem we were not quite sure of. He made plenty of suggestions for future improvements and our realtor was so impressed by his expertise that she has found a new resource for her other clients as well. I would highly recommend David

"I was looking for the most convenient way to move from Miami, Fl to South Carolina. Everybody was charging me over 2.5k to rent me a truck that I had to load and drive. Moving APT was one third of the price (I called a month before I moved). The boxes looked small at first sight but the smallest one fit my 2-1 apartment. They picked up the box, I took my time to enjoy the road trip to SC, not worrying about hauling the big load. They arrived in about a week and everything was just like I packed it. "<p>We needed to have several trees removed and contacted Dave based upon reviews on Angie's List. We also mentioned we wanted to have a large swimming pool removed and turned into lawn. Dave called his friend Jason Beamer from Good Guys Construction in Waynesville to come and bid on the job. Dave indicated that if we hired Jason for the job he would help with the demolition and would do the trees as part of the contract. We were therefore a little surprised when he handed us a bill for $2,200 for removal of 22 trees. I don’t know how many his team actually removed. They trimmed the lower branches of two good trees that we wanted to keep. Later that day the crew cut the two good trees down when we were not looking. We paid Dave’s friends over $14,000 and they completed less than half the project and left it in a very bad state. </p>
<p>While I would not hire Dave again, I would not hesitate to recommend Dave to friends with a couple of exceptions. (1) Get a written estimate up front; (2) Clearly mark the trees you want removed; (3) DO NOT hire anyone Dave recommends or if you do pay them after the job is finished. </p>

"When we purchased our property I had several companies come out to look at an overall landscaping plan. The very first day Ryan from Lawn-N-Order came out, he told us the sloping and runoff was incorrect behind our house and that he saw evidence of previous water damage in the basement that the previous owner had covered up with masonry paint. He proposed French drain system to solve this problem. I has several other companies look at it as well and no one else recommended the drain or thought we had an issue. Since it was a lot of money to spend, we decided to "wait and see" and sure enough, the first heavy prolonged rain we had sent water into our basement in exactly the area Ryan said was the issue. We had Lawn-N-Order install a large French drain to handle the runoff from the large hill behind us as well as re-route the water coming from the gutters on the house. The crew was excellent and their experience really paid off when a large water main that was NOT marked by 811 happened to be in the path of the trench they were digging. Thankfully the operator was experienced and knew something did not feel right and immediately stopped digging. Had he not, it would have been a disaster and our foundation probably would have been ruined along with potentially injured guys on the crew from a hire pressure line exploding. This has been a lesson in hiring seasoned professionals for a job like this. You do get what you pay for.

After dealing with a bunch of slimy contractors David is like a breath of fresh air.
