"Forge Mountain Electric recently installed our whole-house backup generator. This family owned and operated business did an excellent job. It was done right the first time and their initial cost estimate was accurate. They are dependable, punctual and detail oriented. We also had F.M.E. do some needed general electrician task like new light switches and some safety improvements for outdated wiring. Excellent quality workmanship at a fair price. We will certainly call on this company for all our future electrician needs."

"William Burden is the third generation owner of WBLightningRods and his company has been in business since 1950. He is very courteous, professional, was on time, and has a very good crew. William was present for the entire installation. We chose the copper system. We are glad for the peace of mind a lightning rod system will provide."

Small jobs welcome

"If I could give James a 10, I would. He installed a new tracking system with brighter lights for my art studio, a new light fixture with a brighter light for my bathroom and a front door security camera doorbell. Just amazingly sincere and very eager to please. You can just tell that he is a good all -round guy. I had hired 3 separate contractors for other jobs this summer and he is the ONLY one who showed up on time AND on the day he said he would and who completed the job to a high standard. Itâ s too bad he cannot clone himself so he can do plumbing, contracting, tile work and so on. Thank you very much. James."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

You can safely perform visual inspections after severe Brevard storms to check for standing water or enclosure damage. Clear away leaves, sticks, and encroaching vegetation to ensure proper airflow around the unit. Monitor your propane tank levels to prevent fuel shortages during extended outages. Never touch the transfer switch, electrical panel connections, or fuel lines. Always hire a licensed professional for any electrical or generator installation tasks to ensure total safety.

Helpful?

Skipping post-storm inspections and ignoring fast-growing vegetation will quickly compromise your generator installation. In Brevard, heavy rainfall and high humidity demand regular attention. Allowing wet leaves to pile up against the enclosure traps moisture, accelerating rust and corrosion. Failing to run regular exercise cycles also allows fuel to gum up. Maintain clear airflow and check for debris monthly to protect your system from the damp mountain climate.

Helpful?

The transfer switch is the most common failure point due to frequent power outages and high humidity in NC. Additionally, the electrical conduit running from the generator to your home is highly vulnerable. Ground movement from freeze-thaw cycles and heavy rain saturation causes conduit joints to separate. The concrete pad and grounding system also require generator installation maintenance, as clay-heavy mountain soils shift and retain acidic moisture over time.

Helpful?

Due to extreme rainfall in North Carolina, generator installation projects require highly durable, moisture-resistant materials. Use non-metallic or corrosion-resistant metallic conduit rated for direct burial in wet conditions. Install a transfer switch rated for outdoor exposure to withstand winter freeze-thaw cycles. Ensure contractors pour a deep, reinforced concrete pad to prevent shifting in the clay-heavy soil. Always use weatherproof sealants on all conduit entry points to block water intrusion.

Helpful?

If your generator starts during an outage but your home receives no power, you need generator installation repairs for the transfer switch. Visible conduit damage from fallen trees or a sinking concrete pad also require a licensed professional to fix the installation. Conversely, if the engine runs rough or fails to start, you need a mechanical repair. If propane fails to reach the unit in Brevard, call a gas contractor.
