It all started with a trip to the Azores of Portugal. RTA's co-founder went there to meet his wife's family… And had his first encounter with an outdoor kitchen. The charm of that kitchen went far beyond providing meals. It served as an inviting gathering space, and offered moments to break bread together.\n\nThe inspiration from that outdoor kitchen was bottled up and shipped back to the US. Unfortunately, there was a lack of accessible options in America in the early 2010's. Someone needed to rethink the conventional approach of construction. Thus began the journey, with a goal of remastering the outdoor kitchen.

"Replaced an existing door after a break in. I was looking for someone to do the work immediately as my door was no longer secure. They were able to come out the next morning to do the work. The quality of the work was very good. I will use them again."

Outdoor Kitchens questions, answered by experts

An outdoor fireplace can add value to your home, with an estimated return on investment (ROI) of 56%. This luxurious outdoor feature will certainly appeal to buyers when the time comes to sell. And, of course, if you aren’t in the market, an outdoor fireplace will increase the livability of your home.

Most projects take 2-6 weeks, depending on design complexity and weather conditions.

Quartz countertops are not recommended for outdoor use. While durable indoors, they are not designed to withstand outdoor conditions like sunlight, weather, and high heat from barbeque grills. Exposure to these elements, particularly UV rays, can cause the resins in the quartz to break down, leading to discoloration and damage to the surface. For a longer-lasting outdoor countertop, it is better to choose a natural stone like granite, which has greater resistance to these elements.

Use fire bricks for a brick pizza oven. These bricks are typically used for fireplaces and chimneys as they can withstand high temperatures from heat sources. If you attempt to use any other kind of bricks, it’s likely that this material will crack from such high heat exposure in the best case—and potentially explode and cause serious harm in the worst case.

Deciding whether to buy a prebuilt fireplace kit or build one from scratch comes down to aesthetics, available space, and budget. Many homeowners like the convenience and lower cost of prebuilt options—around $1,500—versus the involved planning and construction of a larger fireplace. Another bonus: you can usually move prebuilt units. Custom projects are more common when homeowners have access to a larger budget and more area in the yard to place the fireplace.
