"John was called last Thursday evening and said that he could come the next morning. On Friday morning May 3, 2019, he arrived a few minutes early and picked up the recliners to be taken to the garbage dump. I am very pleased with the removal and promptness of ABCO. I would definitely hire him again."

"He did an amazing job repairing a hole in my drywall. He was very professional, putting up a plastic barrier to keep the dust down, cleaning up once the job was done. I would highly recommend Comn Handyman Services for any home repairs you might have. He is very respectful, on time and very good at his craft!"

"Mr. Tyrone and his team did a wonderful job on repairing our kitchen ceiling, which was water-damaged. They removed the builder-installed popcorn ceiling and helped us to buy the right color and type of paint (from Sherwin Williams). They also solved some difficult problems caused by an ongoing bathroom remodel. Mr. Tyrone and his team have a commitment to quality work and exemplary customer service. I will call them first for any home project."

Garbage Removal questions, answered by experts

Once you have your garbage disposal disconnected, you can remove the mounting bracket by unscrewing the bolts that are holding the bracket. You can back them out just enough to pop off the snap ring, which prevents the bottom portion of the bracket from disconnecting from the top when you unscrew the bolts. Use a regular screwdriver to pop off the snap ring, and the rest of the components should fall off by themselves.

As with many appliances, proper maintenance is key to maximizing your garbage disposal’s life span. If everyone in your household is on board with proper care and maintenance, like running water while operating the disposal, you should get plenty of years out of your unit. Avoid putting the wrong food items down the disposal, including pasta, rice, bread, and more.

If your garbage disposal powers up and you can hear it hum, but the arms inside aren’t moving, the problem might be a stubborn clog, a build-up of grease, or a jam of the impeller plate. To troubleshoot these, ensure your unit is off and disconnected from its power source before checking inside the drain or attempting to manually rotate the impeller arms or plate from the underside of the unit. A hex wrench can help.

Soil is just one of the items you shouldn't put down a garbage disposal. Garbage disposals are only meant for soft, non-fibrous foods. Large amounts of topsoil, dirt, or rocks will damage the blades of your garbage disposal or clog the pipes. If a small amount of dirt goes down the drain as you repot a plant, you shouldn't have to worry, but never dump a whole pot of soil in the sink for fast disposal.

If the cost of repairing a leaking garbage disposal is close to the cost of replacing the disposal, then fixing the unit might not make sense. When deciding if you should repair or replace your garbage disposal, consider the age of your garbage disposal, the cost of the repair, and whether your garbage disposal has had other problems recently to help you decide if the cost of repairing the leak is better than the cost of replacing the disposal.
