When tiling over concrete, you should install an anti-fracture membrane after the concrete has been prepared. The anti-fracture membrane acts as a moisture barrier and should be installed to protect the tiles from moisture which helps maintain their integrity. Often, Ditra, a brand name, is used interchangeably with moisture barrier.
Unfortunately, retiled bathrooms don't always get much mileage. Because the tiles are constantly being walked on, they can wear out more quickly. However, a well-done tile job can last many decades, and with proper care and regular resealing, it can last 10 years or more before needing a retiling.
Flooring installation usually takes about one to three days, so it’s a project you can do over a long weekend if you plan to DIY. Keep in mind that for some types of flooring, like hardwood or laminate, you’ll need to let the floor panels sit out of the packaging to acclimate them to their future home.
