Yellowstone Pavement Solutions was established under the premise that all businesses and individuals deserve top customer care and support when it comes to their asphalt maintenance project. Through 13 combined years in construction and asphalt paving as well as educational backgrounds in Construction Engineering and Business Management, we assure you that we can deliver the quality you demand with customer service that cannot be matched in our industry. It is incredibly frustrating to try and get a project started only to have the contractors never call you back, or worse yet, waste your time in meeting with you and never provide you or your business a quote. We specialize in both residential and commercial sealcoating, line striping, crack filling and pothole repair. Our equipment is clean and well maintained and our crews will treat you and your property with respect. The products that we use are specially designed for the harsh climate of Southwestern Montana and are non-toxic to people, pets and the surrounding environment. While some areas may allow for a slope of up to 20%, this is often the maximum slope for driveways, with a few exceptions of up to 25%. Other regions may have a maximum of 12%, 15%, or 18%, so check with your local building department to ensure you’re laying a driveway that is up to code for your location.

Asphalt edging secures the sides of your driveway to prevent crumbling and cracking over time. Most driveways have edges with a 45-degree grading. This helps transfer some of the stress from the asphalt to the ground underneath. If your driveway doesn’t have proper edging, the pressure from your car may break down the edges over time.

This creates a risk for your driveway to fail after asphalt curing because it doesn't have a lasting bond with the surface. In order to get asphalt to perform as intended, it's necessary to prepare the dirt surface correctly first. The loose soil base under the new driveway must be compacted until it is stable enough to support the weight of the asphalt.

There are quite a few differences between concrete and asphalt. Concrete is more costly up front and more challenging to repair. Asphalt does better in cold climates and works well with radiant heat systems. Porous asphalt is also excellent for wet climates, as it allows the water to drain away. However, it does get unpleasantly hot in the summer and requires more maintenance than concrete.

It’s best to weigh the pros and cons of each material and decide on your priorities for your driveway. Gravel won’t be an appropriate choice if your driveway experiences heavy traffic. You’ll find that you need to level and top it off regularly, which could make the material a much more expensive option.
