"Even though it took a long time to get the windows in they are phenomenal. The noise level from the frontage road outside was significantly reduced. Not only did it increase the value of our house it increased the likelihood we would be able to resell later. We also noticed a significant difference in our heat bill. During the summer we noticed downstairs was not nearly as hot as it was before. When our screen latch broke when it got super cold they replaced it no questions asked. We will 100% be using them again."

The vast majority of hinges are symmetrical, and either side of the hinge can go on the door or the frame. Occasionally, you'll find a hinge specifically made for right or left-handed doors with different attachment hardware or larger plates on one side. In most cases, the large side of the hinge goes on the frame.

It is possible to install hinges backward, so be careful when placing them. Position the hinge so that the hinge pin faces the direction the door will swing. For example, if you're standing on the side the door will open into, the pin should be visible. Be extra careful when installing exterior doors, as placing the hinges on the outside for an outward-facing door makes your home much easier to break into.

If your hinges are rusted, a lack of support may be why your screen door is sagging. A misaligned latch and striker may cause a slight sag. For an easy way to make the screen door more secure, purchase replacement hinges if you see noticeable rust or deterioration. To replace hinges, unscrew each leaf on your existing hinges, swap in your new hinges, and tightly screw the new hinges into place.

If you have an uneven door, the best way to level it or make it plumb is to use shims between the frame of the prehung door and the wall opening around it. Rough wall openings for doors usually leave substantial space for shimming so that you can make these adjustments. Start by shimming the hinge side of the door to center the prehung door, and then shim the lock side. Once it’s centered, hammer in the shims and continue checking that it’s plumb to get it to sit snugly in the wall opening and perfectly plumb and level.
