Big Sky Exterior Designs Inc is a family owned business that was founded in 2000. We use 15 employees, not subcontractors, for our provided services. We are fully insured (Workmen's Compensation & General Liability), registered in the states of Montana, Wyoming and South Dakota, and have the capability to post performance bonds for larger projects. We offer several financing options with 12 months same as cash as a free offer to you. Offering seamless steel, higher grade vinyl and price point vinyl siding for rental units or income properties, cultured stone (masonry), fascia, soffits, gutters, roofing (metal and asphalt), replacement & new construction windows.

"I had Big Sky Exterior Designs re-roof my 2000 sq.ft. house and garage due to hail damage from the August 2019 storm. The 4 man crew was qualified and efficient. I asked them if they could finish it in one day and they did. They worked from just after 7:00 am till after 9:00 pm. I was a construction inspector for many years and I know they did a really good job and kept the backyard gates closed keeping my dogs safe. I have found a few nails around the perimeter of the house but that is to be expected as it was almost dark by the time they were doing the clean up. I would definitely hire them again."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can limewash surfaces other than brick. Plaster, stone, stucco, and concrete can all also be limewashed. Any porous surface that will absorb the wash is a good candidate for limewash, although it won’t help much with waterproofing. If you choose to limewash over paint, you’ll need to prep before applying it to avoid a powdery, chalky finish. Shiny surfaces like metal or glass can’t absorb limewash, so it’s not suited for these.

Costs range from $3,500 to $15,000, depending on material, labor, and design complexity.

Yes, masonry is more expensive than concrete because the labor is much more involved. With masonry, your expert will build your project from the ground up, one piece at a time, ensuring they use the proper amount of mortar or grout during construction and keeping the project level or plumb. Pouring concrete can also be labor-intensive, but it’s a bit less involved. It requires building a mold, pouring the concrete, and letting it cure. The less intensive labor makes concrete a more affordable option in most cases.

Yes, you can cut patio stones with a circular saw. Similar to using an electric grinder, you will need to use a diamond blade as this is the most effective blade for cutting a material like stone. The stone must be wet when using a circular saw to ensure the cut is smooth.

A traditional German schmear uses mortar, making it unsuitable for adherence to painted surfaces. Professionals recommend removing any existing paint before applying mortar. However, you can rough up the painted surface and clean it to test if the mortar will stick. Remember that the underlying paint's texture and color may affect the schmear's final appearance—so starting with a bare brick wall will ensure the ideal finish.
