"Dale and his crew arrived on time and immediately went to work removing 17 Leyland Cypress trees from our property. They were fast and efficient; they arrived at 8 a.m. and were done by 10:30 a.m. Cleanup was professionally done. All the workers were courteous. There is no debris remaining on the property. I would highly recommend this company to anyone wanting professional workers to get the job done right. We will use them again."

"Vance & Jesse were a pleasure to do business with. They are both very professional and did a great job. They took out @ 20 pines along with haul a way. Price was very reasonable. Plan on having a few more taken out in the future. Highly recommend them if you need any trees taken out."

"Exceptional work. Blake has a well-trained and well supervised crew, all actively involved in getting the job done right. Courteous, respected my property, took extra care to not damage underground lines. They cleaned up afterwards, all debris, raked leaves, and tilled garden so it is replant ready. They even blew off dirt on driveway. Great value for the price!"

"Phillips Tree service cleared a fence row of a 5 acre field, and took out a dead tree. They trimmed 4 feet away from the fence and trimmed the trees up high. There was a section of the fence lost to large limbs and vines and they reclaimed it for me. The work was excellent, not to mention very hard and laborious. The fee was pricey, but likely fair given the heavy equipment they need and the day and a half of labor. I will call on them again."

"I also had him clear an overgrown fence row. Brandon is one of the most agreeable and efficient persons I have ever dealt with. He does what he say he will, when he says he will and how he says he will. He did such a good job on my fence work, the neighbor hired him to do several jobs around his place."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

You should avoid cutting off the top of mature cherry trees. This process is called tree topping, and it’s not recommended for cherry trees—or any trees, for that matter. Tree topping removes between one-third to half of the length of the tree trunk, resulting in structurally unsound, fruitless suckers. The only exception is for saplings. Young pie, sour, and tart cherry trees that are over 30 inches tall in the fall or winter before the tree blooms can benefit from heading cuts.

Pruning a tree is a yearly DIY job that involves removing small dead branches, leaves, and blooms to help the tree grow bigger and stronger. You can often complete the job with basic home gardening tools. Trimming a tree, however, removes larger sections to control the direction the tree grows in and protects your home, utility wires, and yard from potentially dangerous branches.

Costs range from $500 to $5,000 per tree, depending on size, location, and accessibility.

You can remove a small tree from your yard if there’s space for the tree to fall, you have the right tools and safety equipment, and you follow a clear plan of action. You’ll just want to follow the steps above carefully, and ideally, you will have experience doing similar tasks. If you have any doubts that you can do this project safely, though, you should hire a pro.

Transplanting a palm tree is a similar process except for a couple of important differences. First, their root ball doesn’t need to be as large as a “true” tree, which makes them a bit easier to dig up and move around. Second, they struggle more with taking root and staying upright in a new location, so it’s important to give them extra support when staking.
