"I had used a home mold test that had high numbers of a toxic mold present. I called Mold Remediation & Testing Experts who explained that home kits aren t always accurate. They came out and did a professional sampling. The crew was professional and friendly. I got my results back in a day. The test showed my house didn t have a problem at all. Some other companies would have skipped the test and went right into treatment, but not these guys. They did things the right way!"

"I rated the experience as good rather than very good because I do not have a reference point with which to compare. When Mold Pro inspected they saw obvious mold from the ducts and, therefore, saw no reason to test. The ducts were cleaned as and when promised and for the amount quoted. I was not presented with a written contract and I did not ask for one. I paid for the work when it was completed. Both the inspector and the persons cleaning the ducts acted in a professional manner. I would recommend them to others."

"It turned out well. I used it shortly after I purchased the deal. There were additional charges beyond the big deal amount as I had them repair something that they found while doing it. They did everything as advertised and then in addition to that, they also fixed some molding around the chimney that had become cracked and weathered. I had not used them before. There have been no issues since the service was provided."

"Other than that, I was happy with them. American Home Shield recommended Destiny Air of Alvin, TX. I was happy with them until now. In July, the 10 month old air conditioner, dehumidifier did not work. Someone came out on July 6th and supposedly fixed it. I was gone until coming home the end of July and the humidity upstairs was the same. Someone came out on August 8th and repaired it as of today, it is drier upstairs. In the meanwhile, black mold came through the air ducts. Someone is supposed to come out on August 29th in the morning to take care of this. Today is the 25th, I have been calling them up to seven times a day with no response. The downstairs AC is 3 years old. Coming home on the 19th after a lovely trip- that AC did not work. It took 6 days for a service man to come out. He was 2 hours late, discovered something had to be replaced and it had to be ordered. It should take 2-3 days. Today, is 6 days later and nobody has called me back. I'm sitting here in the heat, can't really live upstairs because of the black mold. I'm at a loss for what to do."

Mold Testing and Remediation questions, answered by experts

Damp air from a humidifier can cause mold in ducts if it raises the air's humidity level too high for the duct system to handle or malfunctions, but it’s not a normal occurrence. To avoid mold trouble, set the humidistat to between 30% and 35% and inspect it often to ensure accuracy.

Black mold appears in areas with constant moisture and has a slightly fuzzy texture. It’ll have a primarily circular pattern. While it’s known to have a black color, it can also appear dark green, or dark brown, although a few types include orange or white flecks. Identifying black mold is important because people who inhale the spores could suffer respiratory issues or neurological problems. Black mold is a toxic material and requires a professional to remove it.

Professionals use specialized equipment and techniques to detect asbestos, radon, and VOCs.

Mold thrives in high-moisture environments, whether that’s steady leaks or just high condensation. Around the house, common causes of mold include leaky pipes, a leaking roof, high humidity, poor ventilation, a damp basement, rotting food in the fridge, wet clothing and towels not hung properly for drying, a leaking foundation, and a leaky air conditioner.

And, of course, if your home suffers from flood damage, you stand the risk of developing mold in the aftermath. That’s why it’s important to act quickly at the first sign of mold.

You probably have mold on your shower curtains because mold and mildew thrive and spread in warm, dark, wet, and unventilated spaces. Your shower is the perfect environment, especially the shower curtains, because they trap water in the folds and creases, plus they’re exposed to the most water spray. The best way to ensure mold stays off your shower curtains is to keep it dry so it doesn’t have a place to grow. Doing this can also help keep mold off your bathroom ceiling.
