Customers say: Quick response

"Davis Foundation was amazing. Mr Davis did exactly what was in my contract and so much more. He and his crew were professional in every way. They came when I called without hesitation about things I thought were related to my foundation but wasn't. I was very on edge with the whole process. But he put my fear to rest. My work was done in January which was a very rainy cold month. It took roughly 6 weeks because it rained so much. They continued to show up everyday that it did't rain. I never had to call. Mr Davis cares about the quality of his work and most of all his customers. He went above and beyond to make sure everything was done right. GREAT EXPERIENCE"

"Scotty has provided his services for 2 of my projects. One was a bridge across a creek so I could reach some acreage I did not have access to. The other was rip rap around a pond dam to eliminate erosion. Both were excellent, on time and in budgets. Definitely use him again."

"Just as in any project you should understand what you are getting into with the people you hire and the contract you sign. My final bill came to $11,000 which was about $7,000 over the "average" advertised by the company. in all fairness I did request additional work not included in the initial quote of $8,000 (still double the average). Once the work started the crew kept me informed on the progress and were on the job everyday until the job was complete. The only thing that remains is rebuilding the bricks that separated when the foundation was lifted. This is one of the possibilities spelled out in the contract and is my responsibility. The thing that I regret most is buying a house where Yazoo clay is evident in the first place."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Handbuilt masonry fireplaces are likely what comes to mind when we think about curling up by the fire at the end of the day. But bricks in the firebox and chimney tend to be heavy, which is not ideal for homes with weak or damaged foundations.

Prefabricated fireboxes come with a full flue and chimney system, significantly reducing the price and installation time. However, if you need to replace the panels down the line, you are locked into the same model or something very similar.

It is possible, albeit a lot slower, to break up a rock using water. You would do this by freezing and thawing the water. You could create some initial holes or cracks in the rock, then pour water into the cracks or holes and allow them to freeze (so it's best to do this in winter or in colder climates). Since water expands when it freezes, this puts pressure on the inside of the rock and causes it to crack. You could continue to pour more water in and let it freeze to continue to break up the rock.

The white stains you see on your bricks are likely efflorescence, which is salt and lime buildup. To remove efflorescence stains, simply brush them away with a stiff brush. For larger, more stubborn stains, scrub the stains with a water-detergent solution.

Yes, you can technically use a pressure washer to remove paint from brick, but it comes with a significant risk of damaging the brick surface. A high-power pressure washer can be fast but may leave the brick looking unsightly. The recommended method is to first apply a chemical paint stripper, following the product's instructions, and then use a stiff metal bristle brush or a pressure washer on a low-pressure setting to remove the loosened paint. Due to the risk of damage, it is often best to hire a professional who can use low-stress methods.

Landscape boulders, especially porous stones like sandstone or granite, can crack or break over time. Cracks occur when water seeps into the surface of the stone and freezes. The risk is highest when it rains during the day and temperatures freeze overnight since the moisture has time to penetrate deeper into the rock before expanding.
