"I hired Austin with CW Land Services LLC to come do some grading in my backyard in order to prep for sodding. There were multiple uneven sections and ruts throughout the area from large equipment during the construction of my home. I now have a flat surface to lay sod. Austin was thorough and professional throughout the job. I would recommend him for any and all Dirtwork. Thanks Austin!"

"Proscape did a great job. I have used them for multiple projects. They’ve done everything from Irrigation system installation to drainage to General cleanup and improvement for us. Very reasonable pricing and a do what they say they are going to do which is pretty tremendous in today’s world!"

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

There are some instances when you can use extra drywall in your garden. Ideally, unused scraps of new drywall are best for amending soil without the concern of additional chemicals or mold. However, drywall with paint, mold, or potential asbestos requires specialized disposal by a professional and should be kept out of your garden.

The best type of rock for landscaping depends on your specific project and needs, as different rocks are suited for different applications. For covering large areas or creating an affordable driveway, consider gravel, but note that it can wash away in flowing water. For water features, river rocks are a good option. Flagstone and cobblestone are ideal for aesthetically pleasing patios and walkways. If you are building a stone wall, fieldstone or small boulders are up to the task. Large boulders and landscape rocks work well as statement pieces, to fill empty space, or to indicate boundaries, but be mindful that they can overwhelm smaller gardens. The best approach is to first define your landscaping project and then select the rock type that best fits that purpose.

Monkey grass isn’t too picky when it comes to light conditions: It needs sun but prefers partial shade. While it can tolerate full sun, it thrives in environments with partial shade (around four to six hours of sunlight per day). The black mondo grass variety is the most tolerant of heat from direct sunlight.

Xeriscaping can be more affordable than traditional landscaping, but it depends on your landscape design. However, you will save on water. If you live in an arid climate or a location prone to droughts, xeriscaping is an especially efficient way of reducing your lawn’s water demand without detracting from the beauty of your yard.

Landscape design can be a simple service that includes a drawing or visual representation of how your yard can be set up and optimized for your intended purposes. But it can also include all of the manual labor to make your vision a reality. When you speak with your landscape designer, ensure everyone understands the specific services you want. Some add-on services may include the following:

  • Sourcing and delivery of raw materials

  • Professional installation of features, including pergolas, decks, and pathways

  • Drainage system design

  • Recommendations for specific plants and trees
