"We hired Parker Deck and Fence to fix an old deck. From initial communication, to the completion of the project my wife and I were very pleased. They were professional, efficient, and communicated often throughout the project. The deck looks great and we would highly recommend! The price was fair and their work is top notch. Thank you!"

"JNM Home Improvement did an excellent job on my deck repair. They took the time to explain everything clearly, showed up earlier than quoted, and did exactly what they said they would do. The quality of the work gave me confidence in the structure of my deck again. Very happy with the service and would highly recommend them."

"They are prompt and easy to work with. That comes with a price though - $168 for the service call and 1st hour. The 2nd hour is pretty high as well. Iâ d use them again when stuck on something but couldnâ t afford to use them on a 4-5 hour project"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Bump-out additions can add some space to a closet without requiring any significant structural work. This entails pushing back the existing rear or side of the closet, simply moving the wall into either an adjacent room or unused space. For ground-floor closets, this could even be extended to the exterior of the home, but that has its own complications. Bump-outs are a good discussion to have with your contractor if you’re just looking to increase the space a little—not renovate the entire closet space.

The best way to calculate framing costs is by basing your costs on the square footage of your home. On average, framing your home could cost anywhere between $7 and $16 per square foot.

To ensure you don’t go over budget, base your estimates on the higher end of the price range. If you know you’re going to use high-end materials or require a custom or complex build, you might even want to tack on an additional 5% of your budget.

You can choose 5/8-inch plywood or 3/4-inch plywood—anything thinner than these sizes may not withstand the impact of debris propelled by strong winds or can be easily torn off by intruders. Remember that the durability of the wood board is crucial, particularly for safeguarding your windows during severe storms. The effectiveness of using wood boards for protecting the investment you made in your home relies on using the appropriate material and ensuring proper installation.

Bow windows need support because they are large and extend out from the exterior wall of the home. Bow windows may extend 1 foot to several feet from the outside of the home, so you’ll need to provide additional support to handle this weight. A window contractor will be able to provide the proper amount of support for your new bow window.

Building involves setting foundation posts, framing with durable wood, adding roofing support, and protecting from elements with water-resistant finishes.
