The house is nearly 50 years old and had a few challenges along the way, but Jon was professional and dedicated to solving any issues that arose. He has very high standards and holds his team and subs to them. Several of the inspectors were complementary towards his thorough and well executed approach.
A few specific highlights: he did an excellent job framing around the plumbing and ductwork, helping it blend into the flow of the rooms, he is a carpenter himself and does an excellent job planning the work from framing to finish so the results are achieved, and he sticks with the job until all the loose ends are tied up.
We would both recommend Jon and his team, and hire them again for our next project
"I don't like to talk badly about people, but I believe she has a mental illness because she would be fine one day and upset the next. It took her 7 years after job was complete to post this and never contacted me to make me aware of this problem she had with her heating and cooling. If she had I would have gladly made it right at that time."
He or his workers scratched some of my laminate flooring which resulted in me spending a number of hours to replace. This so-called "proffesional" does not use any vacuum system when he sands. Be prepared to spend hours removing all the drywall dust he leaves behind. I remember him saying I would never know they were there because they clean up so well. Bull!
I picked this guy because he was local and had an "A" rating. All I can say is he must have had his employees and family members give him all those "A" s because his work does not deserve it.
My suggestion to Jon is to specialize in working for the blind so they will never know he does such a crappy job.
"Customer wrote this after I sued him for my money. He settled the lawsuit before the case went to trial. He told me if I didn't cancel the lawsuit he would give me a bad review, but if I dropped the lawsuit he would give me a good review. I don't respond well to blackmail or bullies."
Complete tear out. New tub/shower, vanity with sink and faucet.
New sub floor with tile. New toilet, lights and fan and mirror.
It took a little while to get things going, but not unreasonably long. I have no qualms whatsoever on the quality of the work and they way it was delivered. Jon and the guys who worked from him were friendly and respectful while in our home. There were some elements of the project that got a bit more difficult than what he originally anticipated. A time or two he said "We might have to charge a little more," but he stuck with with the original contract price - which was reasonable/competiive.
Yes, I'd use JNM again and would feel comfortable recommending him.
The first 2 jobs, bathrooms and laundry, went pretty well. His empolyees were artists but Mr. John is most unpleasent to deal with and out right lied to me at least once. But the work was finally done to my specifications.
The 3rd job was a nightmare. He didn't listen to what I wanted and then argued over it. The cabinets weren't measured correctly and the doors were wrong. I agreed to pay for half the cost of the door change but he turned around and charged me extra for lighting and glass shelves. Items included in the original bid.
The last job cut it for me, I'll never hire him again.
Jon came in and completely removed the faulty staircase and replaced it with properly supported treads and risers. Needless to say, the center support was installed and the stairs are completely quiet. Beforehand, they would creak very loudly on each step and you could see them lowering by 1/2" as you went up the stairs.
Obviously, they had to access underneath the staircase. This meant removing the drywall underneath. The drywall was the ceiling to the staircase leading to the basement. Once they were done with the actual staircase, the guys installed new drywall and did all the mud work so it would be ready to paint.
Finally, Jon checked a 3-way light switch that was acting strange and fixed it in no time.
Overall, they were very professional and dedicated to the quality of the work. I will definitely hire them again for future projects!
His expectations are very high and he demands the same from his team and his subcontractors. Our home is located in Creve Coeur, an area whose building codes and enforcement are very thorough; Jon and all his subcontractors passed every inspection the first time. We even received several compliments from the building inspector about the quality of the workmanship and the high standards of our contractor.
After completion, Jon has been great with punch list items. He is very interested in keeping his clients happy and has kept his word regarding any follow up items or additional work.
At the end of the day, we were very satisfied clients; clients with a beautiful new kitchen, modern bathrooms, a main floor laundry and a contractor we can trust.
