"This was a wonderful experience from start to finish!  The contractor, John, of Southern Grace Exteriors, was
professional, extremely knowledgeable and provided us with a quality roof on a timely basis.  He was a pleasure to deal with, responded promptly to all phone calls, kept us informed of his work plans, and met all his commitments.  He works with a small crew that is very well trained, hard-working and polite.  He has a wonderful eye for aesthetics, recommending a shingle
that we were not familiar with, but was perfect for our house.  He used quality materials throughout and used a technique called ?storm nailing? to adhere the shingles.  His approach to shingling the ?valleys? was a well-thought-out solution, which would prevent water leaks.  Before leaving each night, the crew thoroughly cleaned all around the house for nails and debris.  The finished product was a well-constructed, beautiful roof.  We highly recommend Southern Grace Exteriors.

Glaziers questions, answered by experts

Black spots on the bottom or along the edge of your bathroom mirror are caused by oxidation behind the mirror glass. When moisture and air are trapped between the glass and the backing, they react and cause discoloration. This is sometimes referred to as “mirror rot.” You’ll need to separate the glass and the backing to fully remove it.

To maintain a glass shower door, clean it regularly with a non-abrasive cleaner to prevent soap scum and hard water stains. Using a squeegee after each use is also recommended. Additionally, periodically check for leaks and ensure all hardware remains secure to prevent long-term damage.

Heavy glass tends to be more expensive than thin glass because it is stronger and more durable. In most cases, ¼-inch-thick glass is ideal for mirrors, and ⅛-inch-thick glass is ideal for residential windows. Heavier glass isn’t always necessary, and can be more challenging to hang or install. Work with a local window installation pro for replacement or new construction windows.

The cost of a window repair varies significantly depending on which part is damaged. Here is a breakdown of common repairs and their estimated costs:

  • Broken seal or fogginess between panes: $70–$245

  • Cracked pane: $40–$100

  • Broken glass: $200–$2,000

  • Sash, seal, or track repair: $200–$600

  • Latch or hardware issues: $75–$200

  • Broken window frame: $175–$1,000

  • Window screen replacement: $140–$480

Bathroom mirrors weigh between 6 and 13 pounds, depending on the size. A 16x20-inch mirror weighs 6 pounds, while a 24x36-inch bathroom mirror weighs 12.5 pounds. Large mirrors, such as a 30x40-inch mirror, weigh 46 pounds. When installing or hanging a bathroom mirror, have a neighbor or partner assist you in lifting and holding the mirror in place. A second set of eyes can also help ensure the mirror is centered and level.
