"We had some storm damage and the roofing companies that I've called haven't been very responsive because it's not a very big job.  He started out real good and he's the first one I called when the tree hit the house.  He sent somebody out within half an hour and tarped my house.  Since then I've had three different appointments for him to come out and look at the roof himself to fix the roof and he stood me up all three times.  I'm not really happy there and in fact I won't call him back because he stood me up that many times.  I haven't received the charge yet to put up the tarp.  Like I said I've called him back and I'm not calling him back so if I get a bill, I get a bill and if I don't that is his problem.  He had me sit here at home three times waiting for him and he never came.  I tried to give him the opportunity since he came right away because they were here within half an hour of calling.  He failed on punctuality since he didn't show up three times.  It’s not very professional to stand somebody up three times.  I won't call him back.  I don't beg people and he got three opportunities that I don't normally give people."

Gate Repair questions, answered by experts

No, you can’t use a garage door opener as a gate opener. Automatic garage door openers and automatic gate openers serve similar functions and may even operate similarly via remote control; however, they aren’t interchangeable. Garage door openers aren’t intended for outdoor use and can’t withstand exposure to the elements.

Double gates come with the same gaps as single gates, with hinges taking up a quarter of an inch of space. The difference is that double fence gates also have a center gap, which needs a little more clearance. Space the center gap at half an inch instead of the usual three-eighths of an inch for a single gate.

Yes, professionals offer motorized or remote-controlled shutters for convenience and security.

Automatic gates don’t use too much electricity, and you should see a minimal effect on your utility bill. In fact, certain gate systems are entirely self-sufficient and rely on solar panels attached to or near the gate to power the motor. While a gate is large and there is a powerful motor moving it, it’s not something that sees constant use throughout the day. For most automatic gates, expect to see a utility bill increase of only around $10 per month.

Automatic gate openers last around 10 years, but this time span depends on several external factors, like the type of gate they're attached to and how well you’ve kept up with general maintenance. Despite lasting a decade, you should still expect to complete one or two repairs in that time, as some components will fail before others.
