The job was awesome, and they even helped me search for my dog that had gotten injured. and ran off. THe dogis safe and well, BTW... Thanks, guys.!!!"

"I never contacted the provider or used this service in anyway. I have to
write this review so that the request to write this review stops
popping up.
The rating is bogus as it is required to be able to submit.

"The estimate and the people doing it was good. They knew what they were talking about and took their time. They said the work would start early February before they can start, which is fine its no rush. But we would appreciate if they could just give us a date. My wife has chased them down and they haven't gotten back to her. Just keep us in the loop, we shouldn't have to chase them down. We understand if the weather delayed or a set back. Its not hard to make a call or send an email."

"Mike was a pleasure to work with and was very responsive in the time leading up to the job and while the work was being completed. I was kept up to date and his team came in at budget and on time. We were very pleased with our new siding as well as the stone veneer that was added to our lake house."

"America’s Best Construction saved my worryingly life and saved my money,,,, for months I had doors sitting a handyman had i purchase patio doors only to find out that person was not knowledgeable to install them,,,, finally I reached out to Angi and within a week doors and other construction work was finished and they left me worrying free…..  Big Thanks to Nick and the crew!!! Upon the emergency of getting the bifold glass patio panels installed, Nick and crew asked me were there any other job needing so I mentioned to them how I dreamt of expanding the kitchen and with their good construction skills they took down a wall and taught me about LVL Beam, amazingly I am so in awe how American’s Best Construction did 2 major projects planned for one day, took the time to expand the jobs to 2 days, not rushing in order to make sure that the rainy day would be a hindrance for the doors true sealant….. What a Blessing!! THANKS NICK, for starting my New Year with a Huge BANG!!!"

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Your local building code will list all the framing requirements for whatever type of structure you're building. Most exterior walls require spacing of 16 inches on-center, while many non-load-bearing interior walls only require 24 inches of spacing. However, there are also varying requirements depending on your construction material, so checking your municipality's rules is essential.

Costs depend on furniture type, size, complexity, and whether additional modifications are needed.

The cost to convert a carport into a garage averages about $22,000, ranging from about $15,000 and $55,000. Additional cost factors to consider include size, time of year, and how much of the carport you can reuse. Other cost factors include the kinds and amounts of materials used, such as:

  • Add insulation: $1 per square foot

  • Add drywall: $1–$3 per square foot

  • Add window: $450–$2,000 per window

  • Add outlets: $75–$500

  • Add garage door: $250–$11,200

  • Enclose framing: $5–$13 per square foot

  • Replace roofing: $1,000–$2,000

Yes, you can find ceiling joists using simple tools if a stud finder isn't available.

Using a hammer requires patience and a keen ear. Gently tap the ceiling in a grid pattern, listening for sound changes. A hollow sound indicates space between joists, while a solid, dull thud suggests a joist. Mark the location with a pencil and confirm by tapping from different angles.

Alternatively, you can use a nail, but this method will leave small holes. You'll feel increased resistance when the nail hits a joist. Mark the spot and repeat the process every 16 or 24 inches to map the joist locations. This method is considered less reliable than using a stud finder.

Modern brick houses are really stick-built homes with a brick facade for aesthetic purposes only, so most have framing. With genuine brick construction, most homeowners install furring strips over the interior of the brick and then install drywall over those strips to cover the brick wall, so they don’t have traditional framing.
