"The contracted the work off to a third party. Jon took longer than expected. The windows was installed pretty good from the looks. Communication could have been better with knowing the job will take longer and what types of trims I wanted for the windows. As the contractor that was hired for this job by this company. Did a good job with putting up decent trim. As for the new windows they look great. I purchased the myself and hired sentri homes to install them. I will need to have a my siding on my house redone to be closer to the new windows so the gaps are not so obvious. That was not expected at first. But from old storm windows and not knowing how they were put in originally. There was some unknown things that was learned from the job being completed. I will have the siding of the house slightly done to match really good for what I wanted later on. My only concern is better communication with sentri homes. Overall they were great when I did talk to them."

"Mountain Construction brought our beautiful 1950s house back to life. Glenn manages a small team and together they seamlessly remodeled the first floor and part of our basement in 5 months. The work never stopped and it was so great getting to know Rob, as well as Mark and Kevin. They take so much pride in their work and were really invested in our home and preferences. Mountain Construction is wonderful to work with and we love the way everything turned out; they genuinely want your home to look amazing AND to be ready to withstand the next 25-50 years. They improved/upgraded our home as needed in addition to the agreed upon work and made sure everything was done with outstanding craftsmanship. Constant communication, questioning and documentation will help make everything run smooth. Plan to make most of your material selections from Home Depot or Lowes, it worked out great for us because there were so many affordable options. Thanks again to Glenn and the team, we are happy to be a reference or share photos."

"Chris called within minutes of my posting on Home Advisor and we discussed the work I needed, the cost, and his availability. We agreed on a date and time for him to begin work. I received a phone call a few minutes before his arrival and he and his brother John arrived on time. After discussing the requirements in detail, (removing and installing two ceiling fans/light fixtures) they began work. Of course, I didn’t have all the right parts which cause a small delay, but the job was completed in a reasonable amount of time and the cost also was reasonable. I’m please with the work and will call Chris again whenever I have another project. It’s especially nice to deal with someone that returns calls and shows up as scheduled."

Home Building questions, answered by experts

Typically, architects do not build homes in a hands-on sense of doing the actual framing, roofing, or other building. Architects usually do not have the training and experience to build the homes they design. An architect would need to know how to do the specific trades required to build a house, which is possible but not a common practice. A general contractor or homebuilder typically oversees the actual details of building the house that the architect designs.

Shipping container homes last at least 25 years on average, but they can last even longer with proper maintenance. Since shipping containers are made from metal, they’re quite vulnerable to rust and corrosion. This issue is exacerbated in coastal areas or areas with a lot of precipitation. To extend the life span of your container home, install siding that protects the exterior.

Modular homes are a type of prefab home. Specifically, manufacturers first build modular homes in sections and then deliver them to the job site. The modules, or sections, are usually at least 70% finished before they arrive on your property.

In comparison, prefab homes arrive in panels or segments, and workers assemble them on-site. Generally speaking, modular homes tend to be more durable, and their consistent construction standards may mean you’ll have an easier time getting conventional home loans.

Historically, Tudor homes originally stemmed from the 15th and 16th centuries, while Victorians appeared during Queen Victoria's reign in the 19th century. The design and structural differences are significant as well. The many types of Victorian architecture—such as Italianate architecture—typically feature ornate trim, wood siding, wraparound porches, and tall towers on top, such as belvederes. On the other hand, Tudor-style homes feature white stucco exteriors with exposed wooden rafters marking the house frame both inside and out.

Craftsman-style homes are predominantly found in the Western United States, specifically in Southern California, where the style originated. Since the climate was mild and there was access to plenty of natural resources, Southern California became a hub for this style at its inception. That being said, if you consult with an architect near you, you can have a Craftsman-style home anywhere.
