"All Service Moving was exceptional. Great customer service - easy to schedule and flexible. Royce & Frost did an AMAZING job moving all of our very heavy and fragile belongings. They handled all of our requests and items with care and worked both efficiently and quickly. They were super friendly and very customer service oriented. I can't thank them enough for the GREAT job they did. I highly recommend All Service Moving for anything moving and/or storage related. And DEFINITELY request Royce & Frost to handle your job. "Working with Michael to set up the two moves with terrific. My problems came from the actual movers. The first movers dropped a heavy piece and damaged it. This group to our items to a location where they were transferred to another group to finish the move. More damage happened. The second move was done by a different group who picked up our things and delivered them. Again some damage. My problem with the second move was with the claim department at National Van Lines. I was overly careful about the damages I claimed (only submitting the largest items or easiest to replace), but had to negotiate to get a fair deal. BUT NVL did set me up with a great guy who could fix most of the damaged items."

"I was moving on short notice and working within a budget. Marie, the customer service rep, walked me through every step and helped alleviate my concerns, as I had previously used another moving company and had a bad experience. The price quote was very fair. Santonio, Mason, and Austin were fantastic!!! From start to finish they were friendly, knowledgeable, and extremely professional. They worked quickly and handled all items with care. I am extremely appreciative and grateful to them for providing a great moving experience. I highly recommend using Arch Moving, and will definitely use them the next time I need moving services. 10/10 experience!!"

Moving questions, answered by experts

You can save money when moving by packing and moving items yourself. You can also find ways to cut costs by shopping for packing supplies at discounted stores and getting free moving boxes instead of purchasing them. It also pays off to declutter your belongings prior to starting the moving process. Remember, the fewer items you have, the fewer packing supplies you have to buy, and you can rent a smaller moving truck or container, too.

The cost to rent a moving truck is $1,000, with a typical range running between $20 and $3,500, depending on the truck size and how far you are moving.

To prepare for moving a piano, start by documenting its current condition with photos in case of any damage during the move. Secure the piano's lid and wrap the instrument, including its keys and pedals, with bubble wrap and moving blankets for protection. Note that if you have hired professional piano movers, they may handle this step for you.

Next, prepare the space. Measure any tight spaces or doorways to ensure the piano will fit through. Clear a wide path from the piano's location to the exterior door, removing any furniture or obstacles. It is also helpful to prop open doors to make the exit easier.

On moving day, ensure the moving truck can park as close to the exit as possible. For safety, keep children and pets away from the moving area to prevent accidents or distractions.

Start by removing any obstacles in the moving path, such as side tables, lamps, or other furniture. If your couch has legs, unscrew them. Measure the couch and the stairway to ensure you have enough room; if it seems unlikely, examine the shape and size of the couch and decide whether it might fit better up the stairway and through doorways on its side, held diagonally, or moved in an upright position.

Consider putting the sofa on a dolly to go up the stairs. It should be able to fit upright on a standard dolly with wheels. You’ll still need to lift the dolly—with the couch on it—up the stairs, but it will reduce the physical strain. The person holding the dolly should pull the couch up, while the helper should be on the other side, keeping the couch secure and steady.

If you don’t have a dolly, the person in front should lift the couch slightly higher than the person in the back to create more stability. The person in the back should also be the stronger mover, as most of the weight will be distributed there.

Moving a grill by yourself is possible, as long as you’re careful. If your grill has wheels, you can simply wheel it to your desired location—or to a moving vehicle if you’re transporting it to a new location. Before moving a grill, make sure it’s cool and clean. And, if you need help moving heavy furniture items, a pro can help.
