"I am delighted with how things turned out.  The work on the tub itself was superb, it literally looks brand new. The new shower door is great too.  Bob worked with me to make sure that all of the little details were done right, and I was very happy to do business with him.  He was patient and easy to work with.  Highly recommended!

"Humes Masonry did a great job on my tuck pointing project. They were very professional, courteous, and responsive throughout the project. They do high quality work at a reasonable price, and went the extra mile to attempt to clean-up some work from a previous contractor. I would highly recommend Humes Masonry and will certainly consider them for future work. Overall, a great customer experience.

"Kotty Siding and Windows did an excellent job on our front porch. They installed new vinyl siding on our front porch gable, installed vinyl ceiling over the old one, and wrapped the remaining exposed wood with aluminum. Overall, we were blown away with the results; they made an old porch look brand new. Dale (the owner) is as honest as they get, and kept in constant communication with us during the project. This is how all businesses should be ran!"

"I highly recommend Al's Handyman Service. Al and his crew did a great job, they began work promptly, they stayed on schedule (even though the weather was not cooperating) and their prices are good. Al impressed me right away with his smart ideas for the improvements to my home. He is an excellent handyman. A+.

"Originally tried MIRELLI but their work deteriorated within a year. They claimed that their mortar deteriorated due to salt from having the drive shoveled. Didn't agree as this porch was over 20 years old and first time had to have work done. Contacted ANDRE and they did excellent job with 5 year guarantee. Had a few mortar separations a year later and they came right out and repaired. Also put on a clear sealer that did not show on the hard pavers. MIRELLI used a sealer that destroyed the porch appearance and had to have removed. Would strongly recommend ANDRE TUCKPOINTING.

Glass Block questions, answered by experts

DIY is possible for small projects, but professional installation ensures proper sealing, structural integrity, and a precise finish.

Glass block windows aren’t fire hazards; fire-rated glass block windows can increase your home’s fire safety. Modern glass blocks are made with materials that can resist high temperatures and prevent fire spread. Most offer a 45-minute fire rating, while some increase it to two hours. Compared to the typical 20 to 90 minute rating for a double-pane window, glass block can increase your home’s safety in the event of a fire.

Glass block installation can be relatively expensive due to the range of material costs and the labor time to assemble this type of specialty window. The process proceeds slowly as the glass does not absorb moisture from mortar and silicone caulk takes longer to harden, leaving spacers to hold up the structure until the caulk or mortar begins to cure. Plus, if your current windows have structural issues or damage, you’ll need to repair them before beginning the project, increasing your bottom line.

Glass block windows typically last for 15 to 30 years, which is slightly less than the 20- to 50-year lifespan of standard windows. You can extend their life by resealing them every few years. Professional installation is also key to ensuring the windows are placed correctly and will function properly for years to come. A professional installer will have the necessary skills, tools, and knowledge to install these features and can identify potential issues like damaged frames or cramped areas during a consultation.

Although glass block windows are made of multiple layers of thick glass, they can still break. If an individual block shatters, it can be removed and replaced, but this is a job for a window repair professional. The project is often complex and may require breaking the block further for removal. Do not attempt to handle it yourself, as the broken glass can be dangerously sharp. A professional will have the necessary tools and expertise to replace the broken glass block quickly and safely. Before hiring, confirm that the repair pro has experience with this specific type of window.
